Supercomputer makes a fresh Championship title prediction following West Ham’s disappointing defeat, with the latest forecast reshaping the promotion race.

Following an impressive start to the 2026-27 season, Millwall have emerged as the new favourites to win the Championship.

Despite being considered outsiders before the start of the new season, victories over Bristol City and Norwich City have propelled the Lions to the top of the league.

Now, the supercomputer predicts that the East London club will hold its position and defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United to the title.

The Hammers were the clear favourites for the title at the start of the season, but a draw against Burnley and a defeat to Charlton have caused Opta to reconsider its forecasts.

West Ham are now 16th in the Championship, three points from the playoffs and five points behind the top two.

As a result, Nuno Espirito Santo has received harsh criticism, with the manager failing to deliver the expected results thus far.

Who are the favourites to win the Championship title?
On August 23, Opta gave Millwall a 17.64% chance of winning the title and a 30.14% likelihood of automatic promotion.

The Wolves are thought to be the Lions’ closest competitors, having picked up four points in their first two games.

Cesar Peixoto’s team is given a 12.72 percent chance of winning the title, while their automatic promotion odds are 23.26 percent following their 3-1 victory against Preston North End.

Former favourites West Ham are no longer predicted to win the title, with an 11.04 percent likelihood and a 20.88 percent chance of placing in the top two.

Middlesbrough, who have also had a difficult start to the season, have an 11.12 percent chance of winning the title, but their chances of automatic promotion are 22.08 percent.

Finally, Southampton, who began the season with a negative four points, remains a contender, with a 10.76 percent chance of winning the title and a 20.52 percent chance of finishing in the top two.
