Burnley’s celebrations for gaining promotion to the Premier League degenerated into turmoil, as players fought with one other while supporters flooded the Turf Moor pitch that they were performing on.
On Easter Monday, both Leeds United and Burnley clinched promotion to the Premier League with victories that were defining moments of the season. This occurred during a day of play in the Championship that was extremely exciting.
At Elland Road, Leeds defeated Stoke City by a score of 6-0 to increase their hopes of promotion. However, it was subsequently announced that Burnley’s victory against Sheffield United by a score of 2-1 meant that the Blades could no longer catch up to their promotion-chasing opponents.
After hearing the news, supporters and players from both teams quickly celebrated their enormous accomplishment. However, some Burnley players went too far and fought with one other at the Turf Moor while fans flooded the ground.
As a result of the victories that both Leeds and Burnley achieved on Monday, they have each reached a total of 94 points for the season. This is two more points than Sheffield United can get even if they successfully complete their two remaining matches for the season.
And it is certain that this reality was not missed on the Burnley fans who were there at Turf Moor since, as soon as the full-time whistle certifying their promotion was blown, they quickly went onto the pitch.
However, the Burnley supporters did not have a completely positive attitude. A video that has gone viral on the internet shows a fan approaching and provoking Hamza Choudhury, a defensive midfielder who is presently on loan from Leicester City to Sheffield United.
Choudhury and his teammates were being rapidly taken off the pitch when the fan approached him with his phone camera. This was done because of the potential security danger that was created by opposing players being on the pitch with supporters.
At the time, the loanee from Leicester City seemed to be in a state of rage. Although the cameras from Sky Sports swiftly moved away, a story from The Star alleges that he was subsequently need to be ‘dragged’ down the tunnel by security personnel.
In light of the fact that Leeds and Burnley have both earned a position in the Premier League for the next season by finishing in first and second place in the Championship, all eyes will be on the clubs who finish in third to sixth place in the league to determine which teams will be able to qualify for the play-offs.
As it stands, those spots are occupied by Sheffield United, Sunderland, Bristol City and Coventry.
