Wolves have made a key decision regarding Molineux, with the move attracting significant attention and sparking debate among supporters online.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided that the iconic Liquidator song will not be played at Molineux as part of the club’s matchday plans for the 2026/27 season, prompting a mixed reaction on social media.

The Old Gold and Black will be hopeful that their first Championship campaign in eight seasons results in an immediate return to the Premier League under Cesar Peixoto.

However, they did not exactly send Molineux fans home happy on the first day of the season, as Blackburn Rovers were on the verge of leaving WV1 with all three points before Raul Jimenez’s 93rd-minute penalty equaliser.

Wanderers fans haven’t had much to cheer about in recent years, with their team winning only three of their 18 home matches in the Premier League last season, and those fortunes must be reversed as soon as possible to restore Molineux’s status as a fortress.

Nonetheless, there was a generally good attitude at the stadium prior to kickoff last Friday, with all 22,500 season-ticket seats sold out.

However, the aforementioned decision, which also involves Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion, has not gone over well.

Why Wolves have prolonged Liquidator ban is revealed.

The Wolves’ owners, FOSUN, have not been popular in recent years, but president Nathan Shi was asked in May if the Liquidator, built in 1969 by Harry J Allstars, will return to Molineux after being banned in the early 2000s.

Shi ‘promised’ to look into the situation, but the club has since stated that, following conversations with the Molineux Safety Advisory Group and additional reviews, it will not return as part of the pre-match matchday agenda.

Wolves has decided not to reintroduce The Liquidator into the pre-match entertainment schedule at Molineux, taking into account the song’s history, fan feedback, and the club’s responsibilities regarding supporter behaviour, safety, and governance. The club acknowledges the song’s significance to some elements of the Wolves fan base and its historical relationship with the atmosphere at Molineux, but football and the regulatory framework in which teams operate have evolved dramatically over the last two decades.”

Wolves fans have diverse emotions to the Molineux and Liquidator choices.

Wolves’ choice has sparked mixed reactions, as the song was also used pre-match by West Brom, who use it to express their dislike for both Wolves and Chelsea.”The atmosphere was electric last week with Metallica, Led Zeppelin, and the fanfare into Hi Ho (silver lining), so I don’t think we need the liquidator as such. The only occasion I’d favour it would be Albion at home,” suggested one supporter. But can Albion play it before the Black Country Derby (BCD)? “Makes no sense,” commented one perplexed Wolves supporter.

Another admirer believes the owners made the wrong decision, calling it “absolutely pathetic.” It’s the easiest opportunity you’ll ever have to win over Nathan’s fans. Making Molineux noisy brings out the best in the team, and it always does. Shocker.”

However, one admirer clearly disagreed with the masses, claiming: “I am sick & tired of this ridiculous song, WE DONT NEED THE LIQUIDATOR!! I’ve been attending to Molineux since 1987, and the best atmosphere I’ve seen was against Manchester United in the cup, as well as the European nites under Nuno, and guess what? No LIQUIDATOR was played back then! In reality, no one wanted it.

Unsurprisingly, some Albion supporters seemed to enjoy the backlash, with one response reading: “Fair play to Nathan for respecting our pregame song.” He understands there’s only one squad that deserves to use it around here.

Another Baggies supporter commented: “What a shame. “We will sing the Albion anthem loudly and proudly for you.”

Wolves fans will hope that championship triumph means the Liquidator decision is forgotten.

It is unsurprising that such a decision has divided opinion among Wolves fans, who want a strong atmosphere to return in order to assist their team achieve promotion.

However, if Peixoto’s team can do the most of the talking on the pitch in the remaining 45 league games, Shi’s decision not to see the Liquidator return will likely be forgotten.

However, those who support West Brom may not forget about this anytime soon, especially with the first Black Country derby at Molineux to be played in front of supporters since the visitors’ 5-1 away win in 2012 scheduled for September 20th.
