On the most recent episode of The Pyramid Podcast, EFL podcaster Tom Garratt predicted that Birmingham City manager Chris Davies will be fired by the first international break.
The Blues began their season with a pretty dreary 0-0 draw at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United.
Opportunities were few and far between. Patrick Bamford came closest, but it was just one of three shots the Blades had throughout the game. It was a solid defensive effort away from home, but it lacked a cutting edge going forward.
Only four teams had a worse away record last season than Birmingham, and nothing from their first away game suggests that will change this year, which will be critical in their bid to reach the play-offs.
Chris Davies is expected to leave Birmingham City during the international break.

Speaking on the new EFL show The Pyramid, podcaster Tom Garratt believes that the poor away form will eventually lead to a mediocre start to the new season, and he does not believe the higher-ups at St Andrew’s will be as forgiving with Chris Davies’ job security.
He predicts the Birmingham manager will be fired by the time they travel to West Brom on October 10, after the extended international break.”I’m telling you, he won’t be here long,” Garratt remarked. “The Blues aren’t good enough away from home, and the fans I’ve spoken to aren’t happy about it.
“Sheffield United were terrible, but at home, they won 3-0. “They’re frustrated because it doesn’t translate.”After we [West Brom] defeated them, Davies left…in fact, we have them after the international break. He’s gone now. “You heard it here first.”
Garratt believes that the Blues’ off-field business over the last 12 months has been successful and has put them in a solid position to challenge in the Championship.
While Davies had credit from the record-breaking campaign he guided them to in his first season at the club in League One, it is quickly fading, and if Birmingham aren’t competing, Tom Wagner and co. will make a change.
Birmingham City’s difficult start to the 2026/27 season will put Chris Davies under pressure.

It is not a stretch to believe that Chris Davies will face the most pressure of any of his management contemporaries, owing to the club’s overall aim. After all, he led the Blues to their best league finish in a decade last season, which was regarded as dismal.
If Birmingham aren’t in a strong position by the international break, and the same is true for other teams, that three-week window provides an excellent opportunity for early changes to be made and new managers to come in and stamp their mark on things.
So Davies is under scrutiny, and his team has a pretty tough fixture list moving into the break, with home games against Bristol City, Southampton, Wolves, and Middlesbrough and away games against Wrexham, Norwich City, and Derby County.

It’s an incredibly difficult stretch of games, and it will undoubtedly show a lot about how serious this Blues team is about competing for promotion.
Chris Davies might solidify himself as the guy for Birmingham City with a good run in the coming month.

On the other hand, although a terrible run could cost Davies his job, a successful run in that seven-game period could boost his value back to where it was at the beginning of last season.
If Birmingham can bloodied a few noses in clashes against teams that finished in the top eight last season and are expected to do so again this season, they will be able to demonstrate their promotion credentials ahead of what should be a more favourable run on paper.
The away performances will be key in this case. Only three teams left St Andrews with all three points last season. Coventry City were defeated there, Millwall were thrashed 4-0, and Ipswich Town were fortunate to escape with a draw on the first day.
So, the best teams may fall in Birmingham; the question is if the Blues can pick up the necessary points away from home to maintain their promotion status. If they can’t, regardless of how difficult the away games appear to be, Chris Davies could be in a dangerous situation.
