Cesar Peixoto, the head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers, could be without Colombian center-back Yerson Mosquera for an extended period of time.
The extent and form of his injury remain unknown, having been incurred in last Friday’s 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Molineux.
Wolves are hoping to make a first-time bid for promotion back to the Premier League under their newly-appointed Portuguese manager in their first season at Championship level in eight years, but they were far from convincing against Tony Mowbray’s side in the division opener.
Despite Marshall Munetsi’s early opener, Mosquera and his defence teammates struggled to keep up with Blackburn’s explosive attack until goals from Sean McLoughlin and Andri Gudjohnsen turned the game around either side of halftime.
However, Wolves’ first point of the season was saved by returning Mexican cult hero Raul Jimenez, who converted a 93rd-minute penalty after Ryan Alebiosu was ruled to have handled inside the area.
The West Midlands club’s next game is away to Preston North End in Lancashire, at Deepdale, but it remains to be seen how Peixoto shuffles what was a stretched defence against Rovers owing to Mosquera’s terrible situation.
Yerson Mosquera suffers severe injury blow for Wolves ahead of Preston match

According to Johnny Phillips of the Wanderers Post, there are concerns in the Wolves camp that Mosquera, 25, may face a protracted stint on the treatment table after pulling up in the last minutes of the draw with Blackburn.
Peixoto had already used all five of his substitutes well in advance, and in an attempt to rescue a point after an exceedingly unsatisfactory start to the Championship, the defender played some time as a makeshift centre-forward despite struggling to move.

Moments later, Mosquera was to be treated by medical personnel on the sideline near to the dugouts before being ruled unfit to continue, resulting in Wolves drawing the match with one man down.
However, the extent of the ailment, which has yet to be revealed, puts Peixoto under pressure, as it was claimed that Ladislav Krejci’s withdrawal from the team was also due to fitness, despite the fact that the Czech international continues to garner transfer interest.
How Wolves fans have responded to Yerson Mosquera’s injury update
Mosquera joined Wolves in 2021 for £4.5 million from Atlético Nacional and has had a difficult time since entering into the first-team fold on a regular basis two seasons ago.
Naturally, this injury news has elicited interesting replies from Old Gold and Black fans, with one stating: “Quite simple then really, we don’t sell Krejci and Santi Bueno.”
Another commented: “Feel sorry for the lad but him and Toti are just not good enough, so it’s the perfect time to replace him. His constant rolling around holding his face is also really annoying.”
One Wolves supporter expressed disappointment and hoped that Mosquera’s performance would improve with a full season with Trippier. To be honest, Mosquera is not a good CB. Yes, he gives his all, but he lacks technical ability. We need more poise and someone who can deliver a pass without making a fuss. “Having said that, I wish him well,” added another verdict, implying that Wanderers may need to recruit more depth, quality, and experience in defensive areas before September 1st.
Yerson Mosquera had wanted to win over wary Wolves fans this season.

There is little doubt that Mosquera would have hoped to use this season as a trigger to reinvigorate his Wolves career, despite a slightly worrying defensive performance against Blackburn.
However, it appears that opportunity may pass him by, increasing the urgency for the club’s hierarchy to provide Peixoto with funds between now and September 1st to fill out his squad ahead of the remainder of the gruelling campaign, as only three signings have been made beyond the obligatory permanent deal for Krejci, with two of those coming on free transfers in the form of Trippier and Jimenez.
