Wolves are expected to undergo a significant roster renewal ahead of their first Championship campaign after eight years in the Premier League, but progress has been slow thus far.
As is always the case with relegated sides, players who believe they are at a higher level than the Championship are expected to go on to other top-flight clubs, and those players must be replaced as well.
At Molineux, however, no one has been sold in the early stages of the summer transfer window, with only three new arrivals.
The £7.7 million spent on Standard Liege winger Rafiki Said is Wolves’ first paid-for signing this summer, and their first in over a month, with the other two new signings, Kieran Trippier and a returning Raul Jimenez, completed in the early stages of the window after their contracts with Newcastle United and Fulham expired, respectively.
Wolves’ technical director provides an update on summer transfer transactions.

Ultimately, those three signings will not be the only ones made this summer, with plenty more incomings and outgoings likely at Molineux before the season begins, particularly before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Matt Jackson, Wolves’ technical director, confessed to Birmingham World that the ongoing World Cup has slowed commerce greatly this summer, not only at Molineux but throughout sport.
As the tournament nears its end, transfer activity is expected to pick up quickly.”We expected the World Cup group stages to cause delays,” Jackson explained. The world’s finest players were present, and a significant amount of money was invested in those individuals.
Clubs delayed their return due to uncertainty about their fitness and well-being.You don’t want to spend a lot of money on someone who is participating in the tournament and may get injured. We anticipate faster progress now that teams are back in training and have a clear understanding of their capabilities. It’ll soon heat up again, and the following several months will be quite tumultuous.”
Fortunately, one of Wolves’ rare arrivals, Raul Jimenez, did not sustain an injury while representing Mexico at the World Cup, instead playing an important role in their journey to the Round of 16, where they were defeated by England at the Azteca Stadium.
The 35-year-old scored three times in the tournament, following a nine-goal Premier League season with Fulham.
There’s plenty of reason for excitement at Wolves in the transfer window this summer.

It’s reasonable to say that last season’s Wolves squad, which had to wait until January to win a league game, was not the most popular in the club’s history, and some fans are hoping for a change at Molineux.
There may only have been three new additions, but all three appear to be excellent choices. Regardless of their ages, Trippier and Jimenez possess enough elite abilities to rank among the best at their respective positions in the Championship.
Meanwhile, Said is coming off a fourth consecutive season in which he scored at least eight goals from the wing for French clubs Nîmes and Troyes, as well as Standard Liege in Belgium.
The 26-year-old looks very promising, and with a hefty seven-figure fee connected to him, there are certainly great expectations for what he can accomplish in the Championship with Wolves, who are supposed to be a ball-dominant, dangerous offensive side.
If there’s more to come, Molineux fans have every reason to be excited about the new Championship season. Ideally, they’ll return to the Premier League in May with a stronger roster than last season.
