In the midst of a sensational summer transfer, Bruno Fernandes made it clear to Manchester United what club he wanted to play for: Bayern Munich.

If Bruno Fernandes decides to make a U-turn and pledge his future to the German team, Thomas Tuchel wants Bayern Munich to try and sign him from Manchester United.

As pressure mounted on the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain manager, Tuchel declared back in February that he would be leaving his position as head coach of Bayern at the end of the current campaign. Bayern has been searching nonstop for a replacement ever since that incident.

Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann, and Xabi Alonso are a few names that have been connected to the position, but Bayern has had trouble locating the ideal successor. Rumors have surfaced suggesting Tuchel may choose to stay and play on before the upcoming season.

Before agreeing to a new contract, Tuchel is eager for Bayern to provide him with guarantees on two particular transfers, according to The Independent. He wanted to bolster one position immediately at the beginning of the season—midfield—because Joao Palhinha was on the verge of signing.

Palhinha was supposed to finalize his high-profile transfer from Fulham, but the agreement fell through at the last minute. Tuchel thinks that was a pivotal moment in Bayern’s development, which let Bayer Leverkusen dominate at the top of the Bundesliga.

An attacking midfielder is another position that he believes has become more crucial. One player he would like to sign is United captain Fernandes. Tuchel has made multiple attempts to sign the Portuguese playmaker, most notably in 2021 when he was managing Chelsea.

Fernandes is the ideal choice for Bayern as they look to add more quality and depth up front while also evolving the team’s personality. The likelihood that Tuchel will be successful in bringing Fernandes on board could even increase in light of Jamal Musiala’s reported transfer to Manchester City.

It happens as Fernandes fears for his own future at United, as Al-Nassr, of the Saudi Pro League, is lining up a huge £90 million move to sign him this summer. Following Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle, a game in which he started and performed well, Fernandes gave United a deadline regarding his future.

“I need the club to want me,” Fernandes declared. “I think the team wants me to be a part of the future. Like I’ve always said, I don’t want to be a player the team doesn’t want. I’ll leave if they don’t want me, but I’ll stay if they do.

Just because I wear an armband doesn’t make me any different from anyone else. Nobody denies that we play for a major club and that we must raise our game every time. I always try my hardest, and we always give the club our all.”

Fernandes’ current contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in two years.
