The truth around Sam Field’s future has emerged, with Norwich City closing in on a deal for the QPR midfielder.

Norwich City hope to continue their summer transfer business with the return of former loanee Sam Field.

On Thursday, the Canaries confirmed their first summer signing, bringing in Brazil under-20 international Bruno Alves from Cruzeiro on an initial loan agreement with the option of making the transfer permanent next summer.

The defender will most likely require some time to settle into the senior group at Carrow Road, so the announcement of Field’s permanent agreement will certainly pique Norwich fans’ interest in their Championship prospects for next season.

The 28-year-old joined the club from fellow second-tier side QPR in January and contributed to a successful second half of the season, starting seven of his 13 league matches during the short period.

However, it appears that his spell at Carrow Road did little to persuade the Hoops to bring him back into first-team activities this summer, and his five-and-a-half-year stay at Loftus Road appears to be coming to an end permanently this summer.

Price tag revealed as Norwich City closes down on signing Sam Field.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Norwich are likely to part ways with Field for up to £3 million this summer in order to sign him permanently.

The 28-year-old has made well over 200 Championship games and will give valuable depth for what is expected to be a pivotal season at Carrow Road next season.

With the number of injuries experienced by the Canaries last season, Philippe Clement will need to strengthen up his roster this summer in case they face a similar situation next year.

The fee will also climb to £3 million, however it is unclear how much of that total would be determined by appearances and whether Norwich is promoted. If certain bonuses are not reached, the final cost may be lower.

Field’s ability to work in the engine room and as part of the defensive line will make him a valuable full-time addition to Philippe Clement’s side, and the Belgian manager believes he is worth a seven-figure sum.

How do QPR supporters feel about selling Sam Field for £3 million?

There’s no denying the value that a competent squad player with plenty of Championship appearances can provide to a team aiming to battle for promotion, but a £3 million fee may be a little steep for some.

With Field considered unsuitable for the QPR squad by Julien Stephan last season, many Hoops fans expected him to leave permanently for a small amount as the club focused on developing Nicolas Madsen and Jonathan Varane.

As a result, R’s admirers are understandably pleased that they could collect £3 million for his services.

“Might be the biggest robbery this world’s ever seen,” remarked one QPR fan in response to the news. “If that figure is true, then that is an incredible bit of business,” another replied.Responses included “No complaints, especially if this fee is true!” and gifs of individuals smiling with money stacks in hand.THREE??? QPR fans also commented, “Christian [Nourry, QPR CEO], take a little out of that and buy the wife something,” and “CEO strikes again and generates us vital funds,” respectively. Evidently, they believe it is a wonderful piece of business by their board.

After a 2025/26 season in which QPR parted ways with £4.5 million for Ronnie Edwards, £2.7 million for Koki Saito, and an initial £2.75 million for Richard Kone, which could rise to £5 million, among other decent seven-figure fees for incoming players, there was some concern that the Hoops would need to recoup some money from one of their starting, saleable assets.

If they can recuperate £3 million for Field, who was not in their plans, they will be able to retain the core group intact ahead of next season, improving their prospects of promotion.

Clearly, it is a popular move among those on Loftus Road’s terraces.
