Sheffield Wednesday takeover saga takes a new twist involving Dejphon Chansiri. David Storch is reportedly eyeing a move that could include an ex-Arsenal figure and a Sunderland-linked name.

Sheffield Wednesday is currently in administration, but potential owner David Storch is desperate to complete the takeover by May 1.

The Owls’ terrible season was summed up when they were demoted from the Championship to League One in February after losing 2-1 to Steel City rivals Sheffield United.

Wednesday’s troubles were exacerbated when erstwhile preferred bidder James Bord’s buyout plan fell through, resulting in them remaining in administration for an extended period.

However, the South Yorkshire club appears to be moving in the right path again, with Storch getting closer than ever to completing his transfer.

On Wednesday, Football League World compiled a comprehensive list of the most recent takeovers.

Dejphon Chansiri’s U-turn and Positive Sheffield Wednesday Implications

Dejphon Chansiri, the former Owls owner who forced the Hillsborough club into administration, is still deeply despised among Wednesday fans.

Meanwhile, according to EFL guidelines, Wednesday will be deducted 15 points next term since Storch’s bid was insufficient to pay creditors 25p in the pound.

However, Chansiri might assist the South Yorkshire club avoid that fate by waiving the sums owed to him.

Storch posted on X, saying: “A 15-point penalty will be applied at the start of next season. “We strongly disagree with this choice. We further requested that this matter be evaluated through independent arbitration, promising to fund all associated legal fees in the interest of openness and fairness. “That request was denied.”This is extremely frustrating, not only for us, but for everyone who cares about Sheffield Wednesday’s future. This circumstance is tough due of its uniqueness.Dejphon Chansiri, the club’s former owner, refuses to write down or restructure a major chunk of their debt.We have made numerous attempts, through administrators, to communicate with Mr Chansiri in order to reach a positive conclusion. Those inquiries went unanswered.

However, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon, the former Wednesday owner is open to talks with Storch’s Arise group and could negotiate an arrangement that would reduce the 15-point punishment.

Owls are looking for a former Arsenal board member for a vital job.

Storch and Co. will need to make important decisions at Hillsborough Stadium after the takeover, including hiring their own board members and directing a transfer window that might make the Owls competitive in League One next season.

Wednesday supporters will be hoping for great recruitment this summer, given their previous two transfer windows have been extremely difficult, with notable exits such as Josh Windass and Barry Bannan.

According to Football League World, Wednesday is interested in hiring former Arsenal technical director James Ellis to fill a similar post in South Yorkshire as part of Storch’s group.

Ellis was previously a senior scout at Fulham, implying that he might help the Owls recruit ahead of the 2017 League One season.

Sunderland figure set to take part in the Arise reshuffle.

Appointing the former Arsenal technical director is not the only change the South Yorkshire club intends to make to their hierarchy this summer, should Storch’s takeover goes through as expected.

According to the Sheffield Star, the Owls have lined up David Bruce, who is leaving his post as Sunderland’s business head, to be their next CEO.

Bruce joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2023 and helped the North East club return to the Premier League after spending time in League One and the Championship.

If Storch completes his takeover by May, he will simply be subject to the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test; but, if the transaction is not completed by next month, he will also have to go through Independent Football Regulator checks.
