Preston North End have failed to maintain a promotion challenge despite a promising first half of the season.
Under Paul Heckingbottom, the Lilywhites were in contention for a play-off spot, but their form in the second half of the season shattered their chances of promotion.
The Lancashire club has dropped behind rivals like as Southampton, Hull City, Wrexham, and Derby County in the league, thus putting them out of contention with four games remaining.
As a result, planning for the forthcoming transfer window will begin, with the club hoping to improve their prospects of finishing in the top six next year.
However, there has been speculation about a prospective takeover, with speculations linking Amr Zedan to a bid to buy the Championship club.

Paul Heckingbottom makes financial claims.

Heckingbottom has spoken about the necessity of working well with the resources available amid speculation of a takeover at Deepdale, claiming the team has outperformed expectations this season despite their play-off drive falling through.
He mentioned Lincoln City’s promotion to the Championship as an example of how teams can outperform their size, implying that having the most money to spend isn’t always the most significant factor in a club’s success.
“Yeah, look, it can’t be done without more money,” Heckingbottom told the BBC.
“So, in terms of expenditure, wages, and net spend, we are likely to finish last in the league this season.
“For us to be where we are, doing that, demonstrates that, as I told you at the start of the season, it’s not about money.
“And that is not Preston not spending; it is simply the current terrain of the Championship.
“When I look at the upcoming clubs, Lincoln has done an excellent job, which is probably how we will have to do in this league.
“But they’ll definitely spend more than we do over the summer to make significant upgrades.
“That’s the lay of the land.”
Heckingbottom believes that if Preston improves their level of investment somewhat, which is conceivable with a new owner, it may mean the difference between being in the middle of the table and challenging for promotion.
“Now, how we do it is really, really important because we have to do it.”So, for example, if we could get our wage bill in the middle of the road while also investing, strengthening, and paying transfer fees in the middle of the road, I believe I could bring us up to a tough level.
“That would be my aim.”
Preston North End’s takeover cost compared to Sheffield Wednesday

According to reports, Zedan may be required to spend between ยฃ12 and 15 million to purchase Preston from the Hemmings family.
However, the Lilywhites are not the only Championship club facing a takeover bid at the moment, with Sheffield Wednesday on the verge of being purchased by David Storch.
The Owls were apparently valued at roughly ยฃ20 million by the American-led company, although the Yorkshire club has been in administration since October and has been confirmed for relegation to League One since February.
Another partnership led by James Bord appeared to be the next owners of Hillsborough, with a reported bid of ยฃ48.7 million until the agreement fell through.
A takeover claim was made among Reyes. Clear interest.

Preston are also reportedly interested in signing Barnsley’s Reyes Cleary in the forthcoming transfer window.
When asked about his potential signing, FLW’s Lilywhites fan pundit Darren Watson suggested that a takeover would help the Lancashire club bring him in.
He believes Cleary would make an excellent addition to Heckingbottom’s squad, especially if Lewis Dobbin is not signed on a permanent basis.
“Personally, for me, I think the club should be looking at this guy,” Watson said to FLW.
“Obviously, he has a lot of talent and could make the move up to the Championship.
“If we don’t get Lewis Dobbin, this is someone we might have to go get.
“With the takeover, we will have the money and funds to complete the Alfie Devine deal.
“I believe Devine will join Preston, as long as he accepts the terms and we can afford him.
“[Cleary has] lots of potential, and I truly believe Preston should be looking at him.
“His stats look really good, and he looks like somebody who can definitely make the step-up to the Championship and actually make a big difference in the squad, if we don’t sign Lewis Dobbin, which I think is a bit of a stretch, as Aston Villa’s asking price is a bit high, even for Preston’s standards.”
According to prior reports, The Tykes set an asking price of ยฃ8 million for Cleary due to interest in his talents during the January transfer window.
Celtic threatens Preston North End’s arrangement with Spurs.

Football Insider stated that Celtic are interested in signing Preston loanee Alfie Devine.
It has previously been believed that following his summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, the Lilywhites have an option to buy clause worth roughly ยฃ4.5 million.
However, Devine has emerged as a potential possibility at Parkhead, with interim boss Martin O’Neill in attendance for Preston’s match against QPR earlier this month.
It remains to be seen whether the Championship side can afford the buy option included in his loan agreement, although a change in ownership could have an impact on this transaction.
However, FLW’s Preston fan analyst Darren Watson is sure that a successful takeover will assist the club close the deal to keep Devine at Deepdale.
“With the takeover, we will have the money and funds for the Alfie Devine deal,” Watson said to FLW.”I believe Devine will join Preston as long as he accepts the terms and the club can afford him.”I believe a deal was agreed upon prior to the announcement of the takeover, but we still need him to agree terms, and the takeover may have attracted him with a higher salary to come to Deepdale, be a starter, and be the first name on the teamsheet.
