Klopp showered the defender with compliments.
Consequently, what happened?
After making 201 appearances and contributing 11 goals for the Reds, the 32-year-old defender will depart the Merseyside team at the end of the current season. Seven winner’s medals, including titles in the Premier League and the Champions League, were awarded to him during his time at Anfield.
THE LARGER IMAGE
Matip was one of Klopp’s first acquisitions; the manager signed the player from Schalke 04 for free. He was an ideal fit for the Germans’ style of play because of his keen sense of the game and deft back-row ball play. Matip gained popularity among supporters as he proved to be a valuable member of the Liverpool team and made significant contributions in both domestic and international leagues.
KLOPP’S MENTION
Matip has always been praised by Klopp, and before their parting, the manager showered the defender with accolades once more.
“I don’t think I have encountered many players who are more adored than Joel Matip in all the years I have played football. Klopp told the club website, “I’m not even sure it would be possible to say anything bad about him.”
We have been fortunate to have him with us for as long as we have; he is a wonderful professional, a wonderful football player, and a wonderful human being. At this point, all we can do is wish him well as he moves on to new adventures.
Joel is a player whose abilities are evident to all, and our team has benefited from them ever since he joined. He hasn’t made too many news stories over the years, but he has only ever been a very well-known member of our group.
Joel is someone who, as I’ve previously stated, wouldn’t mind being underappreciated, but the fact is that we were unable to give him a higher rating. One of the key reasons his tenure here has been so successful is that he has not only set the bar for himself, but also for others.
