Everton have reached an agreement with Chelsea to recruit Tyrique George on a permanent basis, TEAMtalk sources claim, as David Moyes’ team prepares to ratify the sale of one of their wingers to West Ham.
The Toffees made their first major signing of the summer this week, announcing the arrival of Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough on Thursday for a reported £16.5 million.
They are now likely to immediately follow up on the Hackney deal by permanently signing George, who joined Everton on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
TEAMtalk informed earlier this month that George is still being considered by Everton as they aim to strengthen their vast range of possibilities.
However, some uncertainties arose when Everton elected not to exercise their option to buy in their loan agreement with Chelsea, which was valued roughly £25 million.
However, Everton reopened talks with Chelsea for George and have now reached an agreement worth an initial £18 million with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons. The Merseysiders will thus pay substantially less upfront for the 20-year-old than if they had exercised their buy option provision.
We understand that, despite not playing much in 2025/26, George is highly regarded at Everton. The winger enjoyed his loan period and wanted to stay, and he’s now ready to do so.
West Ham wants to sign Dwight McNeil.
With George’s permanent acquisition by Everton nearing, Moyes’ side is expected to approve an exit for Dwight McNeil.
McNeil came close to joining Crystal Palace in January, but the deal fell through in the dying hours of the transfer window.
TEAMtalk revealed in an update on Friday that West Ham are interested in the 26-year-old. The Hammers have identified McNeil as a potential substitute for Manchester United’s priority target, Crysencio Summerville.
According to sources, West Ham have inquired about acquiring McNeil. No formal offer has been made yet, but Everton are willing to transfer the former Burnley player.
McNeil is eager to leave Everton in search of a fresh challenge, and he is open to heading to London after his failed transfer to Palace last winter.
He was a key player for Everton at times, particularly under Sean Dyche, and helped the team avoid relegation during a difficult period.
However, with George’s permanent deal being secured, McNeil is most set to leave Everton this summer, and West Ham are presently the favourites to bring him in.
