Wrexham has joined Derby County in expressing interest in Ipswich Town offensive midfielder Anis Mehmeti ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 25-year-old joined the Tractor Boys from Bristol City in January and contributed to Kieran McKenna’s side’s promotion to the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship on the final day.

However, with Gary O’Neil now in charge at Portman Road, and players like as Julio Enciso, Daizen Maeda, and Abdul Fatawu joining Ipswich in the summer, Mehmeti faces stiff competition for his place.

As a result, he was not included in Ipswich’s matchday squad for their opening-day victory over Sunderland, and there has been much speculation over Mehmeti’s future.

Wrexham must do everything they can to sign Anis Mehmeti.

It’s easy to see why Championship clubs are interested in Mehmeti; he was a very good player at Ashton Gate throughout the years, and he has proven himself at this level.

From Wrexham’s standpoint, he would also contribute something new to the team, and his performances in the first two games indicate that this is exactly what they require.

With Josh Windass out injured, the Red Dragons have lacked a creative spark, and they failed to capitalise on their superiority at Cardiff, conceding a late equaliser.

It was a different story against Watford, as Wrexham struggled to score despite having more possession of the ball, so Mehmeti would be a huge help.

He can score goals, has a keen eye for a ball, and is unpredictable, which would give Wrexham more attacking inventiveness.

It’s a similar story for Derby, who also require a player in that mould, and it wouldn’t be surprising if other clubs at this level are keeping an eye on Mehmeti.

Anis Mehmeti could thrive in Wrexham’s setup.

From Mehmeti’s standpoint, the Wrexham project will undoubtedly appeal because they are a growing club with the expectation of challenging for promotion.

So, after seemingly falling out of favour at Portman Road, Mehmeti will understand that joining a team like Wrexham is the best way for him to return to the Premier League.

Furthermore, he should be well-suited to the Parkinson’s system. With the ex-Bradford manager choosing for a back three, the width will come from the wing-backs, allowing Mehmeti to play as an inside attacker off the target player.

That will allow him to find space in the last third, which is where Mehmeti excels.

As a result, this appears to be a move that benefits all parties involved, and it would be a wise addition for Wrexham if it is approved.
