Following a 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Monday night, Leicester City announced that they would be returning to the Premier League as Championship winners. Jamie Vardy scored twice in the victory.
Jamie Vardy has the support of Enzo Maresca to remain at Leicester for one more chance to win the Premier League.
The former England striker turned back time on Monday night, scoring twice to help Leicester defeat Preston 3-0 and guarantee their return to the top flight as champions. The 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, but he is adamant that he wants to continue competing. Furthermore, Maresca declared that he wanted him in his squad for the upcoming season after he increased his total for the league campaign to 18.
“Jamie Vardy is Leicester,” declared the manager of Leicester. Jamie Vardy has always scored goals in his life, and he will continue to do so even if he is forty or forty-five. He’s always been good at scoring goals. He is a very fortunate player for us.
“We have a game on Saturday to wrap up the season, after which we sit down. However, if I can make up my mind, I have a feeling that he will stay.
Maresca has had an incredibly fulfilling first season leading the 2016 Premier League winners, who were shockingly relegated the previous season.
Their promotion was confirmed when second-place Leeds lost to QPR on Friday. Now that they’ve won comfortably at Deepdale, they can play Blackburn in their final game of the season to finish with 100 points.
“It’s a fantastic feeling,” stated the Italian. As we’ve said numerous times, this season has been extremely difficult. The championship is a lengthy season with numerous games, but we succeeded in the end and are thrilled.
“I think we completely deserved this target because the performances were there.”
Maresca acknowledged that there had been a lot of festivities before leaving for Lancashire. “I had pizza and invited the coaching staff over to my house, but all of a sudden at two in the morning, the players showed up,” he said. It was a slightly longer party.
“We had a great time over the past two days. We work hard for moments like these, I told them, so they should enjoy themselves. To prepare for the game, though, we made an effort to be focused yesterday.
After halftime, Vardy scored twice, and Kasey McAteer sealed the victory.
Leicester was simply too good, according to Preston manager Ryan Lowe, whose team barely gave the Foxes any trouble.
They make a strong team, he remarked. We were aware that they would dominate and have extended plays, but you can’t give them opportunities like the three goals or they will punish you. The three goals were disappointing despite their supremacy and genius, and that has to change.
However, they did an excellent job. They have raised the bar, so I’m wishing them luck and congrats.
