Tony Mowbray, the current Blackburn Rovers manager, has spoken out against West Bromwich Albion’s ownership concerns since leaving the club in April 2025.
Tony Mowbray was reappointed as West Bromwich Albion’s head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract after managing the club for little under three years in his last term. However, Mowbray was fired by West Brom in April 2025 due to a bad run of results.
He has been unemployed ever then, having only recently accepted a position at Blackburn Rovers in June 2026. He won only five of his 17 games in those three months and was promptly fired, despite having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at The Hawthorns.
Since then, Mowbray has slammed West Brom’s ownership, claiming that there were even attempts to influence with the players he chose on matchday. He criticised that feature, which may explain why the relationship swiftly deteriorated and he lasted only three months in charge.
West Brom’s response to Tony Mowbray’s comments against Shilen Patel

West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess was asked about Mowbray’s second term at the club, and he said that the hierarchy will try to influence team selection.
Also, there was a lot of AI use and a lack of transparency in recruitment. He was asked for his thoughts, whether it concerned him, and what he made of it all under Shilen Patel’s supervision.
He responded: “It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of Mowbray’s comments regarding his tenure at Albion were orchestrated by Andrew Nestor, the club’s previously self-proclaimed president. He left in January. He made numerous allusions to data and game models during his time at Albion, which he feels led to the appointment of Ryan Mason. His dismissal followed Mason’s departure due to a disagreement about the direction of the club.
“I think that with a lot of his comments during those statements during his time with the club where he spoke about data a lot, I think with Mowbray’s references to AI, I think it might have been more the works of him.”Patel put him in charge of managing numerous activities at the club.
I believe that Mowbray would have been dissatisfied with how his stint at Albion turned out.We had a far superior team than we had the previous two seasons, last season, and most likely this season as well, so it’s extremely frustrating that we weren’t able to get going. In my opinion, the club should no longer be experiencing these issues.
Why Tony Mowbray’s remarks shouldn’t concern West Brom supporters

Patel’s term as West Brom owner has been mainly favourable since taking acquired the club in early 2024. He inherited a difficult situation, with supporters unhappy after years of uncertainty under Guochuan Lai’s previous ownership.
Undoubtedly, despite a challenging 2025/26 season, he has rapidly provided greater stability to The Hawthorns off the pitch. Patel has managed behind-the-scenes improvements, supported efforts to upgrade the club’s operations, and displayed a clear commitment to developing a more sustainable future.
There have, of course, been obstacles along the way. West Brom have yet to reach their ultimate goal of returning to the Premier League, and some managerial and personnel moves have sparked controversy. That could be why Mowbray is bitter about his leaving, and his views should be interpreted with caution.
Despite last season’s league finish, the general trend appears to be positive. Financial issues have been much alleviated, connection with supporters has increased, and there is a growing sense that the club is on better ground than it has been in recent years.
After losing points last season, the team will be looking to finish in the top half, therefore West Brom fans should not be too concerned about Mowbray’s displeasure and poor performance with them in 2025.
