After Leeds was promoted to the Premier League, it is possible that the club may release three players from their roster.
On Monday (April 21), Sheffield United suffered a defeat at the hands of Burnley, who were also promoted, which resulted in Leeds securing promotion with two Championship matches yet to be played.
It was a party atmosphere at Elland Road when the Whites defeated Stoke 6-0 owing to four goals scored by Joel Piroe and two goals scored by Junior Firpo and Wilfried Gnoto. In the meanwhile, the environment at Elland Road was a party atmosphere.
“How the lads have handled the last few weeks during this crunch time period when there’s lots of pressure on them, the way we have performed in the last few weeks, the spirit and quality of the performances, and the consistency of the results, especially with the clean sheets, has been second to none,” said Daniel Farke, the head coach of the team, after the victory. “The clean sheets have been especially impressive.”
And in spite of the exuberant celebrations that have been going on around Elland Road from both the fans and the players, it is possible that some of them may not be able to play in the Premier League the following season.
There are currently three players whose contracts are scheduled to expire in the month of June.
The right-back position Sam Bryram, who has appeared 37 times this campaign, will see his agreement expire on June 30, with prior reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post claiming the player would be prepared to prolong his stay in West Yorkshire beyond the summer.
Due to the fact that his contract is set to expire in June, Josuha Guilavogui, a midfielder, has only made infrequent appearances in Farke’s formation this season. An uncertain future awaits the former France international, who is now 34 years old.
On the other hand, Firpo’s current contract is about to expire, but if one is to believe the post that his wife made on Instagram after the victory on Monday, it appears like he may be planning to prolong his stay at the club.
She posted an image of the two of them standing on the Elland Road pitch with the phrase “Premier League, here we come in the future.”
Following his transfer from Barcelona to Leeds in 2021, left-back Firpo has been an integral part of Leeds’ promotion campaign this season. He has made 34 appearances and has contributed four goals and nine assists to the team’s advancement.
In March, MOT Leeds stated that despite conversations having taken place no agreement was achieved over the player’s future. Additionally, TEAMtalk said that three Spanish teams were interested in acquiring the 28-year-old player to join their roster.
