Jerome Sinclair: Where is Liverpool’s Youngest Ever Player Now?

In brief
After being Liverpool’s youngest player, Jerome Sinclair became a clubless 28-year-old fried chicken store owner.
Sinclair’s promise was unrealised; he left Liverpool for Watford and was unsuccessful in 2016.
Clubs showed interest in Sinclair during his youth career, but it looks like his football career is over.
When Jerome Sinclair played for Liverpool in a League Cup match against West Brom in September 2012, he was only 16 years and 6 days old, making him the club’s youngest player ever.

After the fact, Sinclair remarked, “A dream come true.” “Now the hard work begins for Jerome,” said Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Liverpool at the time. Being the youngest player and then losing interest isn’t nice. Fortunately, he is a good child who is very focused. You can go far if you have a strong desire to learn. Prior to being signed by Liverpool, Sinclair had actually played a large portion of his childhood career at West Brom.

Frank McParland, the academy director at Liverpool at the time, stated, “We were thrilled that we were able to get Jerome when he was 14 years old, as all the top clubs wanted him.” Even after more than a decade, Sinclair remains Liverpool’s youngest player ever, but at just 28, his career now appears to be coming to an end.

What Happened to Jerome Sinclair
A tale that depicts a downward spiral

Sinclair’s tale is one of unrealised possibilities. He only made four more appearances for the team, two of them under the manager, Jurgen Klopp, who left lately. He really has a goal with the first team, having scored for Liverpool in the FA Cup match against Exeter City. Before playing in Steven Gerrard’s final game at Anfield against Crystal Palace, he made his Premier League debut on the road against Chelsea at the end of the 2014โ€“15 campaign.

He has already expressed gratitude to Gerrard for mentoring him and letting him play with Thierry Henry, his idol. As Sinclair stated in 2020, “There were some big names in that dressing room, like (Luis) Suarez and (Philippe) Coutinho, but Gerrard was the best โ€” he would do something with the ball and people would just stop and clap.”

Gerrard treated me really well and gave me a sense of involvement. He invited me to compete against Jamie Carragher’s team in an all-star charity game. Ryan Babel, Thierry Henry, and I started in the front three. I will always be grateful to him for providing me with the chance to meet my hero.

Although it appeared that Sinclair would have a lengthy and prosperous career at Anfield, it ended abruptly. He partnered with Aidy Ward, the agent that caused Raheem Sterling to leave Liverpool, and despite his youth, Sinclair declined a contract offer from the club.

Regarding Jerome Sinclair, Jurgen Klopp felt that Sinclair fell short of the potential he had envisioned.

In 2015, Jurgen Klopp stated, “What we try to do is create a situation where younger players know getting the highest wages in your life in the first year of your career is not important.” “Getting a real education is more essential, and that is what we want to try. You always need a lot of items for this. Jerome appeals to me. He is truly talented, and there won’t be any issues if he wishes to remain with us. Not a single issue.

“We can’t compel it otherwise. However, I have no knowledge of this circumstance. I have no problem with the current state of affairs, but you need young guys who are eager to learn. Everything will be OK if we can make them believe that this is the best place for them to learn. We aim for such in the upcoming season. We can’t do it right now. Leaving on loan and returning is what we want to do for the future, but it is too much of a rush.

He is a Liverpool player as long as he is present, so there is no issue at all, but I am unable to decide for them. We are limited in what we can provide, and the first thing we must provide is instruction, training, and the opportunity to collaborate with our top coaches and players. The players then get the last say.

His career would not rebound after he left Liverpool for Watford in January 2016. He only made a few appearances before going on loan to several English clubs (Oxford, Birmingham, and Sunderland), as well as to VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands and CSKA Sofia in Russia, after failing to make an impression at Vicarage Road. Despite just being 28 years old, he hasn’t found a new club since his Watford contract was eventually released in 2021.

Sinclair’s best chance to play in the first team came during the 2022โ€“2023 preseason when he returned to Oxford on trial and played in a friendly match against Banbury United for the first time in more than a year. He did not, however, receive a contract, and by January 2023, it seemed that he had abandoned football to concentrate on other commercial ventures. After making his Liverpool debut in 2012, he went on to make 110 appearances overall, which is disheartening for those who had faith in him at such a young age.

Sinclair now participates in “Baller League” and owns a fried chicken restaurant.
The new company began operations in 2022.

Now, Sinclair owns a Morley’s restaurant, which is a chain of fried chicken takeaway restaurants in the UK. “Welcome to the Morley’s family, Jerome Sinclair,” was the tweet sent by Morley’s last July. They provided the Athletic with confirmation that Jerome Sinclair was the real owner of their Birmingham team.

Karl Robinson, Sinclair’s Oxford manager, wished him success in his business endeavours. He has a strong business sense, and I am aware that he is based in Birmingham. He has hobbies besides football. All I want is for him to be content. It doesn’t matter if he plays football again; what matters is that he is content.

Sinclair continues to play the sport and is currently a member of the recently established “Baller League,” though it is uncertain if he will return to the professional stage. Twelve teams, including former Premier League players, futsal players, and celebrities, compete in the weekly six-a-side tournament, which is broadcast on Sky Sports and takes place in London’s Copper Box Arena.

Tobi Brown (TBJZL), a member of the Sidemen, is the manager of VZNFC, where Sinclair plays. Other well-known players competing in the game include former Watford defender Adrian Mariappa and former Liverpool teammate Jordan Ibe. Henri Lansbury, a former Premier League player, also plays for the squad.

Thinking Back on His Playing Years
Since then, Sinclair has been eager to discuss the game’s mental aspect.

Football is a game that requires both brain and foot skills, and a major component of the game is confidence. In 2020, the forward discussed his experience playing football on Football 25/8 on YouTube, saying:

“From my experience as a football player, it has a significant impact when you become emotionally immersed in a situation, whether it goes well or not. Things can’t affect you too much. There are times when you can’t reach too high or too low.

Speaking on his time at Liverpool, the forward acknowledged that there was intense rivalry for spots, adding: “There were a lot of factors.” A young striker would never be able to play on a regular basis with the players they had there. The same phenomenon was discovered by those who followed me (through the academy ranks).

“My contract was about to expire. With the possibilities available to me at the moment, it just felt appropriate. I made the decision with a heavy heart, but I believe it was the right one at the time. I have nothing negative to say about Liverpool.
