Under Julien Stephan’s leadership, Queens Park Rangers have had a mixed first season as they get ready for another season in the Championship without really challenging the play-off race or running the risk of falling into the relegation zone.
For fans of the Hoops, the story has been all too familiar. The team has remained in the second division since their most recent top-flight relegation 11 years ago, and they haven’t shown any serious signs of making a comeback to the Premier League.
With two games left against Derby County and Ipswich Town, Rangers are currently sitting in 13th place in the Championship table. Unlike their opponents, they have very little to play for ahead of what will be an exciting off-season at Loftus Road. There was a brief period in the autumn when it appeared that such circumstances could have changed under the management of the former Stade Rennais and RC Strasbourg boss.
In an attempt to restructure the West London club’s roster ahead of his first season as a manager in the English game, Stephan made a number of recruits; nevertheless, their individual performances and contributions have yielded mixed results thus far.
It was not surprising that Stephan tried to increase the Hoops’ attacking options after relying on Ilias Chair’s creative spark for many years. Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrell, who were acquired from League One teams Wycombe Wanderers and Burton Albion, respectively, have undoubtedly contributed to this cause.
Burrell’s transfer from the East Staffordshire team, reportedly for more than £1 million, has made him a formidable opponent for opposition defenders in what have also been their first-ever Championship campaigns. According to reports, the fee appears to have been a good deal that could now result in a significant profit.
Rumarn Burrell’s departure is a concern for Queens Park Rangers as a three-way transfer war develops.

Burrell has not looked back since playing for the Hoops this season after scoring his first goal in a 3-1 victory over Wrexham in North Wales on September 13th, following a poor start for both himself and his new employers as a club.
In fact, the 25-year-old forward, who was born in Birmingham, had an incredible run of form between mid-October and early December. During that time, he scored eight goals in 11 games, including a brace in another 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
His final goal, however, came on January 4th against Sheffield Wednesday. After 21 minutes, he was substituted off due to a hamstring injury, and he finally made his eagerly anticipated comeback in the goalless draw with Bristol City earlier this month.
After just one season at the team, it’s unclear if Burrell’s games against the Rams and Tractor Boys will be his last in blue and white hoops. According to Football Insider, there may be a three-way transfer competition for his signature.
The striker is reportedly being watched by European-chasing AFC Bournemouth and Sunderland, while recently relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers consider him as a possible part of their rebuild under Rob Edwards.
Burrell’s contract duration was not disclosed by Rangers when he joined W12, but according to the aforementioned publication, he has a further four years left on his contract.
Queens Park Rangers will hope Wolves look elsewhere amid Championship rebuild

The London club would undoubtedly have a lot of negotiation power given the previously cited assertion regarding Burrell’s contract duration. It’s unclear, though, if any interest will materialize in the upcoming weeks.
It has been widely reported that Marco Rose will succeed Andoni Iraola as head coach of Bournemouth at the end of the current campaign, while shocking rumors have surfaced that Regis Le Bris may lose his position at Sunderland if they fail to qualify for Europe.
As a result, Wolves may be in the driver’s seat when it comes to making a deal, but Rangers would prefer to look elsewhere because they already have seasoned Championship goal scorer Adam Armstrong on their roster and links with Scotland international Che Adams have resurfaced.
