Sheffield Wednesday will soon begin preparing for life again in League One as Arise Capital Partners gets closer to acquiring the team.
This season has been a nightmare for Wednesday, who are still in administration over six months after former owner Dejphon Chansiri left in October. When their destiny was confirmed in February, they suffered the quickest relegation in English football history.
Longtime Owls fans may be in for some good news, though, as there is increasing hope that Arise, a group led by David Storch, will complete the takeover before the team’s season-ending match against West Bromwich Albion next month. It is unclear, though, if the team will lose 15 points the following season.
Although Arise is not yet formally in charge at Hillsborough, manager Henrik Pedersen has already begun preparing for the summer transfer market, and it was disclosed earlier this month that internal discussions on a possible move to re-sign former captain Barry Bannan have taken place.
Bannan left Wednesday in January to join Championship promotion chasers Millwall after a ten-and-a-half-year stint that saw him score 37 goals and dish out 75 assists in 477 games for the team. The London team had to overcome competition from Stoke City, Preston North End, Motherwell, and Hibernian to sign the Scot.
Bannan hasn’t been able to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup at The Den, though, which has sparked rumors that he would be let to go this summer. It seems like an emotional return to South Yorkshire may be imminent.
There is one requirement for Sheffield Wednesday to finalize Barry Bannan’s reunion this summer.

When asked if the squad should be at the front of the queue if Bannan becomes available, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan commentator Patrick McKenna said he would be happy to see the 36-year-old return to Hillsborough. However, he advised the Owls not to build the team around the midfield midfielder. If Barry Bannan becomes available this summer, Sheffield Wednesday should definitely think about bringing him back,
Patrick told FLW.As has been said many times, he is an amazing legend at the club.Nowadays, very few players can accomplish what he has done for the squad. If he went back, he would blend in perfectly with the team.If League One had a player like him, it would be amazing.
It would be fantastic to have someone like Barry Bannan available as an option during a game because we haven’t been able to use the bench this season.I say this because if he were to return, he wouldn’t be able to start and finish every game.It would be great to have Bannan as an alternative,
even though we can’t build the team around him.I’ve already said that we need a combination of youth and experience, and Barry Bannan would be a better fit given Sheffield Wednesday’s background.I am aware that if he were to come back, we would need to figure out Bannan’s pay and determine whether we could afford him given our limitations.
“But it would be great if something could be worked out, and, personally, I would love to see Barry Bannan coming back to Sheffield Wednesday.”I sincerely hope that a resolution can be reached so that we may begin with him in the upcoming season.”
Talk of Hillsborough’s return presents Sheffield Wednesday with a difficult Barry Bannan conundrum.

Given the off-field upheaval, few Wednesday supporters condemned Bannan for leaving the team in January, but there might be more disagreement among the fan base regarding his possible return this summer.
Some Owls supporters will believe that Bannan may still be a significant asset for the team in League after seeing hints of his potential since moving to Millwall. Others could counter that, as the team embarks on a new chapter under Arise’s ownership, this is the ideal moment to let go of the midfield player.
Although it’s uncertain if Millwall will be willing to let him leave this summer, Bannan frequently expressed his wish to stay at Hillsborough for the remainder of his career prior to his January departure, so it doesn’t seem probable that his Wednesday narrative is over just yet.
