Derby County face a major decision over Jacob Widell Zetterström’s future, with the goalkeeper’s potential departure becoming increasingly important to the club’s transfer plans.

Monza has made a trade bid for Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.

The Rams have fewer than two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window to complete deals, and they will prefer to sign new players rather than trade some of its first-teamers.

The failure of Turki Alalshikh’s takeover bid at Pride Park appears to have been a monumental waste of time for the Championship club over the summer months, but chairman David Clowes will now press ahead with trying to back John Eustace for the remainder of the window, which includes keeping hold of star players.

Monza submits Jacob Widell Zetterstrom’s proposal to Derby County.

The Derby hierarchy must decide what to do with goalie Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, who is in his final year of contract after joining Djurgardens in 2024.

The Rams signed Zetterstrom for barely £1.4 million two years ago, and given his performances for the Pride Park club last season, as well as at the FIFA World Cup with Sweden, substantial bids were presumably expected.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has stated that, with less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Italian Serie A team Monza has made a bid – although it is only for €2.5 million (£2.14 million), plus a 50% sell-on clause.

That is likely to be significantly lower than Derby’s valuation of the 28-year-old, even with only one year remaining on his contract, and it would not be surprising if that bid was rejected and shipped back across Europe.

What Derby County fans are saying about the Jacob Widell-Zetterstrom transfer deal

Naturally, Derby fans have reacted quickly to the news of Monza’s proposal for Zetterstrom, and there have been similar emotions all over.

This fan, in particular, believes the Italian team must be high to bid the amount they have for the Swedish stopper.

Derby County simply cannot lose Jacob Widell Zetterstrom for such a low fee

You have to admit that Monza’s proposal for Zetterstrom is really audacious; slightly over £2 million for one of the Championship’s top goalkeepers is extremely low.

If he didn’t have less than a year left on his contract at Pride Park, the starting offer would have been much higher, but it’s almost a given other clubs will try their luck.
