Following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, Wolverhampton Wanderers has undergone a complete overhaul in recent days as the club seeks to return to the top tier at the first attempt.
The Old Gold and Black had spent eight consecutive years in the Premier League, with a surplus of head managers nearing the end of that period unable to stay in their positions long enough to help turn the tide at Molineux.
Such achievements were repeated again previous season, when Vitor Pereira was replaced by Rob Edwards in November following a dismal start to the league season.
The 43-year-old was subsequently able to oversee three league victories, by which time relegation was already a certainty, allowing locals in this region of the West Midlands plenty of time to prepare for life back in the Championship for the first time in eight seasons.
Many expected Edwards to be given the opportunity to manage such a rebuild after starting last season in excellent form with Middlesbrough before leaving the North East club in questionable circumstances. He was recently replaced by Cesar Peixoto, previously of Gil Vicente.
As is customary after a team has been relegated, many clubs in the Premier League and throughout Europe seek out bargain signings, and Wolves may fall victim to such circumstances in the coming weeks as exit rumours surrounds Spanish defender Hugo Bueno.
Wolves make a £15 million transfer demand as Fiorentina plots Hugo Bueno raid.

The 23-year-old has spent the entirety of his career in the Black Country, joining the club’s academy ahead of the 2019/20 season from CD Areosa.
He made his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest in October 2022, under the interim management of Steve Davis and James Collins, and has since made 87 first-team appearances for Wolves in all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting twice.
Despite making 26 appearances in the 2023/24 season, including his first professional goal in the FA Cup defeat to Coventry City, Bueno spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord before returning last season and making 38 appearances.
However, in recent days, the Spanish youth international has been widely connected with a move to Serie A club Fiorentina, with Matteo Moretto breaking the news via X.
Alfredo Pedulla later stated that the linkages were false. However, both Football Insider and TEAMtalk have since reported that Wanderers valued Bueno’s services at around £15 million following the summer transfer window’s opening.
The defender, who can also play in more forward roles, is currently under contract at Molineux for two more years after signing a four-and-a-half-year agreement in November 2023.
Wolves may be risking a significant risk by selling Hugo Bueno.

There haven’t been many reactions from Wolves fans on social media to the aforementioned developments, but one fan in particular has slammed Bueno’s potential departure, claiming that an adequate replacement may not be found for the £15 million fee that the club appears to have placed on the Spaniard.
Bueno is not the only defender connected with a move away from Molineux at the moment, as Toti Gomes and Czechia’s star player at the FIFA World Cup 2026, Ladislav Krejci, have been linked with Benfica and Besiktas.
However, if Peixoto parted company with the defender soon after taking over, an urgent replacement would be required, with David Moller Wolfe the only genuine senior left-back still at the club.
Kieran Trippier, the club’s summer addition, has previously played at left-back, but it seems evident that he will be used in his natural position of right-back with 19-year-old Pedro Lima, with Jackson Tchatchoua expected to go.
As a result, losing Bueno might be a significant bet for Wolves, one that they believe would pay off in the long run if he leaves the club in the near future.
