Due to the fact that there are no matches scheduled for this weekend, fans of the Premier League will have to wait even longer for some action to take place.
Typically, an international break would take place over the course of approximately one week prior to the Premier League beginning its return on the following weekend.
This has been the situation throughout this month; however, due to an additional change in the schedule, the amount of time that has passed since the last time they played in the top-flight football league has been increased.
Therefore, this will be the second consecutive weekend that the Premier League does not play, and here is the reason why…
The Premier League is not playing this weekend; why is that?
This coming weekend, there will be no Premier League football because the FA Cup is being played.
In the FA Cup, the competition has progressed to the quarterfinal stage, and the remaining eight teams are now competing for a spot in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.
Seven of these eight teams are considered to be top-flight teams. These teams include Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth for example.
Obviously, this means that there are still a great number of teams that are competing in the league, right?
An agreement was reached with the Football Association (FA) to play the fourth round, fifth round, and quarter-finals on a weekend that did not have any Premier League matches scheduled. This was the first time that this had ever happened.
This has been the case for the fourth and fifth rounds, and now the quarterfinals are going to have their very own dedicated couple of days to themselves.
Nevertheless, this indicates that the Premier League will not be returning to action until a later date.
As a result of the fact that the first matchback will take place on Tuesday, April 1, there will be a gap in the schedule of two weeks since Leicester played Manchester United at their stadium on March 16.
However, because of the break, fans will be focussing their attention on some of the most important games of the FA Cup, which will result in the crowning of a new champion this year.
As was previously mentioned, there are currently seven Premier League teams registered to compete in the tournament.
In addition to Fulham’s match against Crystal Palace, Brighton’s match against Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa’s match against Championship Preston, Bournemouth will play host to Manchester City.
