Sheffield Wednesday have issued an update ahead of a potential David Storch takeover.

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been waiting for the 2025-26 season to end for a long time, but there have been some recent promising signs on the pitch for the Owls to be optimistic about for next season.

Wednesday have been without a win in the Championship since September 20, when they won 2-0 away at Portsmouth in what could be their only success of the season, and it’s only gotten worse since then.

A failed takeover attempt by James Bord, whose extravagant £47.8 million bid looked good on paper but did not materialise, shook everyone at the club, and while the new process of David Storch’s bid is taking time, the American is clearly eager to complete the deal and become the new custodian of Hillsborough.

Henrik Pedersen appears to be keeping his job as head coach if Storch’s bid through Arise Capital Partners is successful, and they are aiming for a May 1 completion date due to the Independent Football Regulator coming into effect on May 5, which could cause further delays – and a few days before that, Wednesday’s final home game of the season is against West Brom.

Wednesday still have two away games against Middlesbrough and Oxford before hosting the Baggies at Hillsborough, but it appears like S6 will be filled for the club’s final Championship game for the foreseeable future.

Wednesday announced in a club update on April 20 that, because they had almost sold out of all potential seats, they would release a final 1,750 tickets for home supporters – some in the West Stand Lower beneath the visiting Albion fans, and some in the North Stand.

West Brom have sold out their allocation in the top tier of the West Stand, where they will be cheered on by over 2,400 travelling supporters, and their Championship survival may still be on the line at that point, depending on whether the EFL deducts points from the Midlands outfit for violating profit and sustainability rules in 2024-25.

Wednesday announced that the Baggies game will be the highest-attended Owls encounter of the season, with some fan positivity possibly returning following their recent troubles on and off the pitch, despite the fact that their past three games have resulted in three points thanks to three consecutive draws.

Sheffield Wednesday fans are desperate for David Storch’s takeover; the West Brom game might be a party atmosphere.

If Storch and Arise complete the takeover before the 12:30pm kickoff on May 2, Hillsborough will have a terrific vibe heading into next season.

Unless the maligned Chansiri comes to a noble agreement to reduce his debts, the Owls will face a 15-point deduction next season because Storch’s bid is only £18 million and will not satisfy all creditors under the EFL’s ’25p in the pound’ ruling, but that would not be the end of the world, as clubs have recovered from similar situations in the past.

Leeds advanced to the third-tier play-offs in 2008 after overcoming the identical deduction, and if Storch completes the takeover and is prudent in the summer, Wednesday should be able to achieve the same.

Only time will tell whether Storch and Tom Costin can not only reach that soft deadline, but also complete the deal, but if they can, they will be the most popular individuals in S6 and begin to right the wrongs that Chansiri left behind.
