West Ham United will be an interesting club to watch this summer, with much of transfer work needed and eyes already set on Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership as targets.
Relegation has forced West Ham United into one of the more intriguing rebuilds in English football. After 14 years in the Premier League, the Hammers are heading into the Championship with major financial and sporting decisions to make, as revenues are expected to fall sharply and player sales become inevitable.
According to The Athletic, in the hours following their relegation on May 24, West Ham “must” generate £150 million in player sales to combat relegation to the Championship. It explains why the volume of turnover might be so large. Premier League-quality assets such as Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, and others are already attracting interest.
West Ham require big sales to balance the books, making this summer one of the club’s most vital in recent memory. Yet there is also opportunity. West Ham have retained Nuno Espírito Santo, a coach with a track record of Championship promotion. Parachute payments will enable the club to build one of the division’s strongest squads.
Hibernian’s Josh Mulligan emerges as West Ham United’s target

Whether they bounce back immediately or face a longer stay in the second tier will depend partly on sales and culture, with the rot setting in something they simply must avoid. Few clubs in the English pyramid have more work ahead of them, or a more intriguing summer on the horizon.
The other factor, however, will be fully dependent on recruiting and the quality of players brought in, as the Hammers require depth and quality to launch a credible promotion push. Automatic promotion must be the goal for a team of this size, infrastructure, and resources.
West Ham have made an early enquiry regarding Hibernian midfielder Josh Mulligan. There has been no bid yet since West Ham must first clarify their outgoings.
Midfielder only recently back from an ankle injury but is attracting interest from England.🥬

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, West Ham have made an initial enquiry regarding Hibernian midfielder Josh Mulligan. Hull City, West Brom, and Blackburn Rovers have previously expressed interest in Mulligan, with the three linked in March of last year.
Nothing materialised, and the 23-year-old departed Dundee to join Hibernian for compensation in June of last year. Jacobs adds that there has been no bid yet as West Ham want to clarify outgoings first.
He also claims that the midfielder has only recently returned from an ankle ailment but is getting interest from England outside of the Hammers. He has not yet been capped by Scotland, though he was an unused replacement in October’s World Cup qualifiers.
Josh Mulligan is the type of signing Nuno Espirito Santo needs.

Mulligan is an agile utility player who can play in a variety of midfield positions in the centre of the pitch, as well as wing-back or fullback. He played primarily as a defensive or central midfielder and missed 13 of the final 15 games due to an ankle injury.
He scored six goals and assisted ten in 122 games for Dundee, and his record with Hibs is much better. Mulligan has three goals and five assists in 33 appearances since joining the club last summer, with the versatile player penning a four-year deal with the club.
The 23-year-old is undoubtedly an appealing alternative for West Ham, which is rebuilding its roster following relegation. Given his versatility, he may be considered two signings in one, providing excellent depth in several spots without the need for numerous signings.
Naturally, in a difficult Championship campaign, flexibility like that can be quite beneficial throughout a 46-game season. At 23, Mulligan also fits the profile of a player with room to develop, while his work rate, athleticism, and adaptability would suit the intensity required to compete for promotion.
He is a player who should inspire others to play better around him, and he is still in his prime. That makes perfect sense for this West Ham United squad.
