After putting an end to rumors that he might sign with Arsenal this summer, Lautaro Martinez revealed he is close to signing a new contract with Inter Milan.
One of Europe’s most sought-after strikers, the 26-year-old scored 24 goals in 33 Serie A games this season to help the Nerazzurri win their 20th Scudetto. Since leaving Racing Club in 2018, the Argentine has also assisted Inter in winning three Super Cups, two Coppa Italias, and getting to the Champions League final.
After two seasons in which the team finished second to Manchester City, Martinez’s outstanding performances have led to constant links between him and a move to the Emirates Stadium, where Mikel Arteta hopes to assemble a team capable of winning the club’s first Premier League title since 2004.
He has since denied any rumors that he might be heading for a mega-money transfer to the Premier League, saying that he is nearing a contract extension at the San Siro and is optimistic about reaching an agreement with Inter before Argentina’s Copa America campaign kicks off next month.
