Southampton want to tie down Tonda Eckert to a new deal as their manager continues to garner interest from the Premier League and Serie A.
After being relegated from the top level, the Saints signed Will Still in July 2025 to assist them return to the Premier League.
Southampton struggled under Still’s leadership and fired him in November 2025. Later that month, Eckert took over, and the English club offered him a deal until 2027.
Last season, the German helped the Championship team finish fourth, four points behind second-place Ipswich Town.
Southampton’s manager has plenty of choices.
However, as a result of the Spygate affair, Southampton was unable to qualify for the playoffs. Tonda Eckert was fined and suspended for six weeks by the Football Association [FA] earlier this month.
This has not prevented him from receiving interest from other clubs. In April, we announced VfB Stuttgart as an alternative. A month later, Sport Witness published a story from Germany revealing that Borussia Mönchengladbach had him on their roster.
The 33-year-old has not entertained them and is still attending St Mary’s. The Saints are now fifth in the rankings, three points behind second-placed Swansea City, and are in contention for direct promotion.
Eckert’s work at Southampton is not going ignored, and Sky Sport Austria has more on the subject.
Manager is open to staying in Southampton
The former Red Bull Salzburg manager’s efforts in England has sparked a’significant surge in interest,’ with’strong interest’ coming from England and Italy.
A number of unnamed Premier League clubs are interested, as are clubs from Serie A. He was Genoa’s assistant manager from 2022 to 2025 and speaks Italian fluently.
Tonda Eckert’s contract expires in 2027, which clearly benefits his suitors. The English club wants to extend his contract to ward off bidders, and according to the source, the manager is also willing to sign an extension.
It will now be up to two sides to work out and finish the details of the deal for him to stay at Southampton after this season.
Southampton would like to renew the coach’s contract as soon as possible so that Eckert is not at risk of leaving in the coming months.
