Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed 8 departures from their squad following the publication of their retained list.

Sheffield Wednesday has released their retained list, revealing eight departures, including long-serving defender Dominic Iorfa.

Hillsborough will undergo significant transformation following relegation to League One and the completion of Arise Capital Partners’ purchase.

The Owls will be trying to challenge for the League One crown, and despite the transfer limits, improvements will be needed.

The release of eight players, including 30-year-old Iorfa, has freed up space in the Wednesday roster. The defender, known for his quickness, is leaving after 222 games in seven and a half years.

Injured midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, winter recruits Marvelous Nakamba and Zain Silcott-Duberry, and teenagers Harry Evers, Junior Kamwa, Favour Onukwuli, and Rio Shipston are also leaving.

Talks about a new contract are ongoing with defender Max Lowe, who has reportedly garnered attention from rivals Middlesbrough and Stoke City.

Liam Cooper, Bruno Fernandes, Reece Johnson, Devlan Moses, Jack Phillips, and Jarvis Thornton have all received offers, while Mackenzie Maltby and Gui Siqueira, two promising defenders, have been invited to preseason training.

Extension options in the contracts of Svante Ingelsson, Liam Palmer, George Brown, Joe Emery, Cole McGhee, Denny Oliver, Logan Stretch, and Ernie Weaver have been activated. The club has confirmed that the option to extend Jamal Lowe’s contract by another year was exercised earlier in the campaign.

Murphy Cooper, Tayo Adaramola, Jaden Heskey, Joel Ndala, and Jerry Yates, who were on loan, have all returned to their respective clubs.

Heskey and Yates have both been connected with a return to South Yorkshire, while Cooper and Adaramola have expressed a desire to wear the blue and white of Wednesday again.

A club representative said: “We offer our sincere thanks to all the players leaving Wednesday and wish them the very best for the future.”
