Tanto Oloafe, a Charlton Athletic striker, has struggled since joining from Stockport County, but a return to League One is possible through Sheffield Wednesday or Leyton Orient.

After scoring 34 goals in 99 games for Stockport County in 2023/24 and 2024/25 combined, Charlton Athletic signed the attacker for £1.5 million last summer. The striker from Lewisham previously played for Millwall in his youth and early career.

Tanto Oloafe scored once in 25 appearances for Charlton during the first half of the 2025/26 Championship season. That encouraged Stockport to re-sign him in January, with Dave Challinor signing the striker on loan for the rest of the season. However, he only scored once in 22 games upon his comeback.

Sheffield Wednesday and Leyton Orient are considering a Tanto Olaofe trade.

Sheffield Wednesday have youthful strikers like Will Grainger and George Brown to assist Jamal Lowe, but they’ve also added firepower with loan signings Harry Grey and Mason Burstow.

Meanwhile, Leyton Orient has sold Dom Ballard to Bristol City, which is why they are looking for more firepower. Orient appear to be in pole position to sign Grimsby Town’s Jaze Kabia, but Richie Wellens still wants more in attack ahead of the League One season.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Sheffield Wednesday is one of the League One clubs interested in signing Olaofe on loan from Charlton. He claimed Wednesday is looking into other options as well.

He also mentions Leyton Orient and a Scottish team as potential suitors. It is believed that the club and player are considering their options in the final month of the transfer window, but Charlton writer Rich Cawley thinks that Olaofe should have left the club on loan by the end of the week.

Modern centre-forwards are evaluated on much more than just goals, which is why Olaofe fits the bill. His pressing tenacity, running strength, overall athleticism, and willingness to go through the channels make him a superb facilitator for those around him.

That type of profile opens up room for teammates, forces mistakes, and helps his team gain possession high up the pitch. Those characteristics made him an excellent candidate for Nathan Jones’ high-intensity style at Charlton, where work rate without the ball is equally as vital as scoring opportunities.

However, this has not worked in the second layer. Olaofe has also demonstrated that he can be a consistent striker, especially at League One and lower levels, where his physicality and pace can overwhelm defences more frequently.

As previously stated, his combination of unselfish running and actual offensive danger explains why several third-tier clubs are expected to monitor his status this summer. He would make a terrific addition to both Wednesday and Orient.

The Owls are putting together a team that can compete for promotion right away, and Olaofe’s athleticism, pushing, and ability to stretch in behind Mason Burstow might be a great compliment. Wednesday has a dynamic and aggressive forward tandem, with one attacking space behind and the other taking advantage of the spaces created.

Nonetheless, Orient would be an appealing destination. Jaze Kabia’s arrival might complement Olaofe’s tireless work off the ball, forming a mobile, hardworking pairing capable of upsetting even the meanest of League One defences. Either move has appeal, but Wednesday may provide a better opportunity to prosper.
