Sheffield United have officially confirmed a major behind-the-scenes change at the club.

Sheffield United experienced a terrible Championship campaign, finishing in the bottom half of the table.

The Blades qualified for the play-off final in 2025, but their form over the following 12 months resulted in them finishing 13th in 2026.

Chris Wilder’s team was 13 points behind Hull City in sixth, who went on to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The Yorkshire club will attempt to return to a competitive level next season, with the goal of competing for a spot in the Premier League.

The play-offs will extend to include the top eight in 2027, giving the club even more reason to believe they can compete for promotion.

But first, they must handle the summer transfer window, which may be a hectic time for the Championship club.

Sheffield United announced big changes behind the scenes.

Sheffield United has stated that Timothy Ryan has joined the club’s board of directors as they restructure behind the scenes.

COH Sports has changed its name to 1919 Partners LLC, and Steven Rosen, Helmy Eltoukhy, and Stephen Bettis now serve on the board.

Rosen has been the public face of Sheffield United’s relatively new owners, who took over in December 2024.

The American has underlined their intention to reinvest in the first-team squad, with the transfer window now open.

He believes investing in new players is the most effective approach to enhance Wilder’s team.”As custodians of Sheffield United, our commitment to the club, its supporters, and its long-term success is unwavering,” Rosen stated on the club’s official website.

“We have invested significantly in the club and will continue to do so.”Success on the field is inextricably connected to sustained investment in the playing squad and the calibre of players that a club can attract and maintain.

“As custodians, the club and its supporters will always come first.”At the same time, we acknowledge that in order to compete at the greatest levels of the game, clubs must constantly improve.

The ownership group must be structured in a way that permits us to grow.

“The 1919 ownership platform enables us to attract additional investors, bringing greater resources, broader expertise and enhanced capability to support our long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch.”This next phase strengthens the club even further, ensuring Sheffield United’s continued expansion, on-field success, and long-term success.”

How Sheffield United supporters feel about ownership changes.

Fans are divided on how they feel about these changes, with some hoping that they would be helpful and help the team move forward.

Sheffield United has until September 1 to finalise any transfers before the market closes.

Sheffield United has been connected with several transfers this summer, but none have been confirmed.

However, these adjustments, together with the players’ return to pre-season soon, should signal the start of their transfer preparations.

Wilder will be hoping that this results in further support from the owners, who will want to prove some naysayers wrong considering how awful things went 12 months ago.

Not only did they change managers just to bring Wilder back in September, but they plainly harmed the club by selling players they were unable to adequately replace, such as Vini Souza and Anel Ahmedhodzic.
