QPR have formally submitted an approach to sign a 27-year-old midfielder on a free transfer.

QPR finished 15th in the Championship table for the second year in a row, following a poor run of play in the closing weeks.

Julien Stéphan’s side lost their final four games of the season, dropping to the bottom part of the standings.

The London team missed out on a top six finish by 15 points because they were unable to sustain a promotion campaign.

The Frenchman was hired head coach last summer, with the intention of improving the club’s 15th-place finish in 2025.

Despite their dismal run in the last fixtures, QPR earned two more points than the previous season.

The club’s focus will now shift to the summer transfer market, when they hope to upgrade their first-team group for the forthcoming season.

QPR join the contest to sign Kalidou Sidibé.

According to French source L’Equipe, QPR is one of the clubs interested in signing Kalidou Sidibé this summer.

The Mali international’s contract with Guingamp expires next month, allowing him to become a free agent.

This season, the 27-year-old scored two goals and assisted twice, helping the squad finish 11th in Ligue 2.

QPR has competition from Poland’s Wisła Kraków and Russia’s Akhmat Grozny.

The two latter clubs are thought to have already made a contract offer, however no agreement has been reached for his services.

It is known that QPR have made an approach for the midfielder, who came up via the Toulouse academy.

Sidibé joined Guingamp in the summer of 2023 and has spent three seasons playing in France’s second division.

The 27-year-old has five goals and seven assists in 86 league appearances for the club, but he is poised to leave this summer.

It remains to be seen whether QPR can persuade him to switch to English football, after spending his entire career in France.

The Hoops will be aiming to improve their midfield options ahead of the new season, and Sidibé had previously been linked with Championship rivals Wrexham.

Oxford United were also apparently interested in the Mali international, but he ended up spending the rest of the season at Guingamp.

Julien Stéphan, who is well-versed in French football, may benefit from Kalidou Sidibé’s signing as midfield competition.

Providing extra insurance and competition in midfield might be a wise move for the London club, especially if they can sign Sidibé as a free transfer.

These actions should offer QPR an advantage over their rivals, although it remains uncertain if they can compete with Wisła Kraków and Akhmat Grozny for his signing.

The allure of English football may be appealing, and the possibility to work with Stéphan, who may assist him in adjusting to life in the Championship, may tip this decision in the club’s favor.
