Premier League club issue issue official statement after Newcastle United U-turn and medical

The former Manchester City defender was passed over by Newcastle United to Chelsea.
Tosin Adarabioyo is leaving Fulham on a free transfer, the club has revealed, even before he is officially introduced as a Chelsea player.

Following fruitful negotiations that resulted in a contract offer, Newcastle United was by far the front-runner to sign the defender. That was before Chelsea made a move and made a more attractive offer.

After formally accepting the Blues’ offer over the weekend, Adarabioyo returned to West London on Tuesday to get his medical. Fulham has made his exit known as he finishes the paperwork.

According to a release, “Tosin joined the Club on deadline day at the beginning of the 2020–21 season and quickly became an important part of Scott Parker’s team.”

Even though the season ended in defeat, the next year proved to be much more successful for Fulham, who won the league and Tosin was included in the PFA & EFL Teams of the Season.

“He was a constant in our backline for the two seasons that followed, helping the squad to comfortably win Premier League safety. In his 132 games, Tosin scored five goals, contributing his fair share of goals as well.

The 26-year-old was subsequently thanked in a post by the Cottagers on X, the former name of Twitter.

Despite losing out on the former Manchester City defender, Lloyd Kelly, who is anticipated to sign a free agent contract this summer from AFC Bournemouth, is expected to sign a deal with Newcastle this summer.

Eddie Howe recruited the former England under-21 international from Bristol City in 2019, and he is well-known to the manager for his versatility as a left or center back. He captained the Cherries during their 2021–22 promotion back to the Premier League, and he has made 141 appearances for the team.
