Millwall have been handed the prospect of a multi-million-pound financial boost, with the potential windfall highlighting a transfer situation that could leave Watford regretting their previous decision.

Femi Azeez’s time at Millwall appears to be coming to an end as the transfer market closes on Tuesday, September 1st at 23:00 BST.

The winger has sparked a lot of interest during the summer transfer window, and it will be interesting to see which club wins the race to sign him.

Azeez’s climb up the English football pyramid has caught the eye for all the right reasons, and he’ll be hoping to have his future sorted at the earliest of occasions.

Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion are some of the clubs believed to be keen on a deal to recruit the Lions attacker, however it remains to be seen whether any formal bids have been lodged.

Watford’s wasted transfer opportunity with Femi Azeez

Watford, who previously had Azeez on their books as a teenager, may be disappointed by what could have been.

Azeez signed a contract with the Hornets when he was 14 years old, but he moved to play for non-league Northwood before moving on to Wealdstone and Reading.

He’s obviously gone on to greater and better things since his time at Watford, but the Hornets have undoubtedly missed out on a huge cash gain from any prospective arrangement Azeez makes with any interested clubs this summer.

Watford are not expected to compete for promotion this season, but they did win an impressive game against Southampton on the first day of the 2026/27 Championship season, and while they were able to sell Nestory Irankunda this summer for a large fee, it would have been even better if they had seen something in Azeez and developed him at Vicarage Road a few years earlier.

Femi Azeez deserves a Premier League move.

There is no doubt that Azeez has been a tremendous servant to Millwall since joining the club in 2024, following a five-year stay with Reading.

Some Reading fans questioned Azeez’s ability to make the move up to playing at a top level on a regular basis in the Championship, but he has certainly silenced any sceptics.

The winger had his breakthrough season with Millwall last season, contributing to the club’s promotion push, which ended in disappointment when Millwall were defeated by Hull City in the play-off semi-finals.

Appearances and Goals

In 2024-2025, he had 39 assists for Millwall. In 2025-2026, he had 37 assists for Millwall, 11 for Millwall, and 8 for Millwall. In May 2026, he earned his first international cap for Nigeria, scoring twice in a 2-0 win against Zimbabwe, capping off a remarkable season for both club and country.

Alex Neil Issues Femi Azeez transfer update: Millwall should brace for leave.

According to Millwall manager Alex Neil, Azeez is not expected to leave the club anytime soon, but there is interest in the former Reading winger.Neil stated that there are currently no conversations regarding Femi’s departure tomorrow.Like any other player. If you asked me that about anyone, I could respond, “Well, they might not play because someone might come along and buy them for whatever between now and the end of the window.”

“I believe everything is clearly recorded with Femi; there is interest in Femi. “We’ll see what happens between now and the end of the window.”

Azeez was forced off with a hamstring injury early in Millwall’s match against Bristol City, although he is only anticipated to miss one to two weeks of activity, raising questions over whether he has played his final game for the Lions.

While Millwall fans will hope this is not the case, their new transfer strategy is clear: sell high, buy cheap, and cashing in on Azeez and landing a windfall would make sense, as would seeing clubs like Watford upset by their mistake in releasing him as a teenager.
