After just one season in charge, the Chelsea manager has left the team.
After just one season in charge at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has left the team by mutual consent.
In the end, Pochettino’s team performed admirably in the Premier League, finishing inside the top 6 and earning a spot in the Europa League, despite a challenging start to the season.
The shocking news was confirmed by a report from The Telegraph.
It read: “Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea by mutual consent after meeting with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali over the course of two days.”
Supporters of Chelsea were given a statement by Pochettino that read, “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history.”
“The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come,” he said.
The report claims that there isn’t any perceived animosity between the two parties.
The Chelsea hierarchy, including Todd Boehly, will now start looking for a new, young manager right away, ideally someone who can take over in time for pre-season.
The names of Sebastian Hoeness of Stuttgart, Michel of Girona, Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town—who has been linked to Brighton—and Enzo Maresca of Leicester City are among those expected to be taken into consideration.
It is reported that Pochettino had dinner with owner Todd Boehly on Friday night last week, and that he also met with Eghbali and other important people on Monday and Tuesday.
After Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel, the Argentine is now the third permanent manager to depart Stamford Bridge since the end of the Roman Abramovich era.
Notable achievements under Pochettino include leading Chelsea to the Carabao Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by Liverpool, and Cole Palmer becoming one of the top players in the league.
