Liverpool transfer news, including an analysis of the reports from Liverpool Echo, along with the most recent headlines and rumors from Anfield
Liverpool is in for a transformative summer.
An exciting future lies ahead at Anfield, with a new head coach already appointed and a change in the hierarchy of decision-makers. But there’s a lot of work ahead of us in the upcoming weeks and months in getting ready for Arne Slot’s debut season.
The goal of the Dutchman’s arrival is to seamlessly usher in the Jurgen Klopp era. That is easier said than done, as Liverpool is about to enter a new world.
The Echo offers an analysis of the reports and rumors at Anfield along with the most recent information regarding their transfer dealings.
Hope for Chiesa
Federico Chiesa, a forward for Juventus, is reportedly being targeted by Liverpool in a low-ball deal. According to Italian reports, after years of connections, there may be an opportunity to acquire him for a low price as his contract expires in the summer.
Chiesa scored nine goals in Serie A last season, which was a significant improvement over his injury-plagued 2022–2023 campaign. Thiago Motta has been mentioned as a potential candidate for dismissal because the Old Lady plans to restructure its management team this summer as he pursues an appointment.
Chiesa has not yet made any steps to prolong his stay in Turin and, should no agreement be reached, will be made available for free the following summer. He will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with clubs all over Europe in January.
The Echo remarks: This seems incredibly unlikely and unduly risky. Although it makes sense for Liverpool to restructure their attack given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah, Chiesa’s selection as the solution doesn’t sit well.
Since Euro 2020 (in 2021), he hasn’t played at his best, and injuries still pose a risk to his safety. Simply put, not much is here yelling Liverpool’s strategy or Slot’s name. Chiesa’s base-level statistics don’t look good, so it doesn’t make sense that Liverpool’s think tank would choose him at his rumored £52 million asking price.
Of course, Chiesa on the left would be a like-for-like replacement if Diaz were to leave, but in this case, there are more affordable and better options.
Two-fold Saudi agreement
Regarding Diaz. According to The Daily Mail, Saudi Arabian teams may decide to make a move this summer because of the Columbian winger and Joe Gomez.
Even though they turned down a huge £150 million offer for Salah last year, Liverpool has benefited from the Pro League boom in the last 12 months, so their relationship with Middle Eastern clubs may not be over just yet. According to reports, both Diaz and Gomez may be amenable to a transfer after Jurgen Klopp leaves.
Gomez was a possibility for the Pro League the previous season, but Liverpool chose to keep the adaptable defender on the team, and they made the right choice because he went on to make 52 appearances. Regarding Diaz, Paris Saint-Germain is rumored to be interested in him as they get ready to replace Kylian Mbappe.
The Echo states that while Gomez is an odd target for the Premier League, Liverpool would have a difficult decision to make.
How will Slot evaluate the team and interpret his position? When shifted out wide, the Englishman can play across the backline, but not like a typical full-back. With three years remaining on his deal, it would take a respectable sum to split with someone as valuable, but going out on a limb with Liverpool if they believe they can get a better player than Gomez shouldn’t be completely ruled out.
