Alejandro Garnacho may not be available for Manchester United during the first few weeks of the season because Argentina wants to use him for the Olympics.
Owing to the Olympics, Alejandro Garnacho may miss Manchester United’s opening weeks of the Premier League season.
International recognition is also starting to come for the Argentine, who has grown in importance within the Red Devils. Garnacho recently scored in the FA Cup final and, in a victory over Everton back in November, created the goal of the season.
United wants to improve significantly on their most recent league campaign, but when they start their season, Garnacho might be in Paris. The world champions have a busy summer ahead of them. In June, they will defend their title in the Copa America, and in July, an Under-23 team will travel to Paris to compete in the Olympics.
According to TNT Argentina, Garnacho is a candidate for both squads because Olympic team manager Javier Mascherano has chosen to include the United star in his team.
Argentina will compete in the Copa America tournament from June 20 to July 14, with the South American country aiming to retain the title they won in 2021. Players like Garnacho may have a short turnaround because the Olympics are held from July 25 to August 9.
The Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is also expected to play at the games, so the United player is not the only Premier League player in the running.
One week after the Olympics conclude on August 16, the new domestic season begins, though players who competed in the games in Paris are anticipated to receive a break before rejoining their clubs.
According to Argentine reports, the Red Devils have not yet replied to their request for Garnacho to be included in their Olympic teams. Clubs can choose to prevent their players from being called up; Arsenal is about to do this with William Saliba.
Olympic success has served as a launching pad for players like Lionel Messi in the past. The Barcelona icon was granted permission to skip the team’s preseason games, and the Argentine will always be eternally grateful to Pep Guardiola for allowing him to participate.
