Commercial revenue, Liverpool’s wage bill, and the substantial pay-off for Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff are all included in the financial accounts that Liverpool has posted for the 2023-24 season.
At the conclusion of the previous season, Jurgen Klopp abruptly resigned from his position as manager of Liverpool. He attributed his decision to “running out of energy” in the midst of an eventful campaign.
Before finishing third in the Premier League, the Reds won the Carabao Cup, advanced to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and Europa League, and won the Europa League. However, the fact that they did not play in the Champions League brought them a great deal of financial loss.
In point of fact, the absence of Champions League football resulted in a decrease of approximately 38 million pounds in revenue from the media, resulting in a loss of 57 million pounds before taxes for the 2023-24 season.
“Media revenue dropped by £38 million, which is mainly related to the club’s participation in the Europa League competition compared to the Champions League in the previous season,” according to a statement posted on the club’s official website.
“This was partially offset by increased Premier League media revenue as a result of stronger on-pitch performance in the 2023-24 season.”
Additionally, Liverpool disclosed that their matchday revenue increased by £22 million, reaching £102 million. This is in addition to the rise in commercial revenue, which increased by £36 million, reaching £308 million altogether.
Administrative costs also increased by £38 million, reaching a total of £600 million. This increase is primarily attributable to salaries and overhead costs across the club, which supported the increase in commercial revenues and the increased number of matchdays in comparison to the previous period.
A total of £9.6 million was paid out by the club to Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff when they left, as reported by The Athletic. This amount represents the payoff that the club received for their departure.
According to the report, Liverpool’s wage bill increased by £13 million to a total of £386 million. This increase is partially attributable to the Champions League bonuses that were received during the previous season, when the club advanced to the round of 16.
The following players were brought on board: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai. On the other hand, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner left the club during the summer of 2023.
Kostas Tsimikas, Conor Bradley, and Ben Doak were among the eleven players whose contracts were extended as a result of this decision.
A total of seven new players have joined the club, including Natasha Flint, Jenna Clark, Mia Enderby, Teagan Micah, Grace Fisk, Marie Hobinger, and Sophie Roman Haug. These players are all members of the women’s team.
Additionally, Niamh Fahey, Yana Daniels, and Ceri Holland were among the five individuals whose contracts were extended.
According to Liverpool’s announcement, the overall revenue increased by £20 million, reaching a total of £614 million. However, the loss before taxes was determined to be £57 million.
