The deal could see the Premier League and Serie A clubs help each other out.
According to sources, Juventus is thinking of trading one of its summer acquisitions to Manchester United, which would result in one of Erik ten Hag’s last acquisitions joining the Italian team.
In the middle of their worst season in Premier League history, United is now in 13th place in the standings, just outside of the Champions League spots and on the verge of relegation.
Ten Hag was fired due to the team’s poor performance, and Ruben Amorim from Sporting in Portugal took his position in the dugout. However, the team’s performance has not improved under the new management, and a bottom-half finish is still very much a possibility.
United signed defenders Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven from Lecce and Arsenal, respectively, during the January transfer window.
However, the departure of three players on loan for the second half of the season last month garnered greater media attention.
Tyrell Malacia, a defender, returned to his home country of the Netherlands to join PSV Eindhoven, Antony transferred to La Liga team Real Betis, and Marcus Rashford joined fellow Premier League team Aston Villa.
Off the pitch, Old Trafford will now be concentrating on the summer transfer market, and a man who joined the team last summer may be making a spectacular move to Juventus.
Joshua Zirkzee paid £36.5 million to join United from Bologna last summer, but his first season at Old Trafford has been mixed thus far.
Zirkzee has five goals overall, including the equaliser in Friday night’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round.
However, the Dutchman’s low point came when he was jeered by some United fans after being replaced after just 33 minutes of the team’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at Old Trafford in December.
He has since got a sort of atonement, scoring the game-winning penalty in last month’s 5-3 shootout triumph over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round after a 1-1 draw.
However, Tuttosport, which Football Italia referenced, claims that Juventus may now try to negotiate a trade with United for Zirkzee and provide midfielder Douglas Luiz in exchange.
In order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the Premier League team had to sell an important player, thus midfielder Luiz transferred to Juventus from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window for an initial €50 million.
After moving to Turin, Luiz has made 20 appearances for the Bianconeri across all competitions, but he hasn’t been able to contribute to Thiago Motta’s team, which is presently 11 points behind Serie A leaders Napoli.
