Despite getting sent out at the conclusion of a furious Merseyside derby on Wednesday night, Liverpool manager Arne Slot may yet avoid a touchline ban. James Tarkowski’s thunderous goal deep into stoppage time gave the Toffees a memorable point in what was the Reds’ final visit to Goodison Park before Everton moves to their new stadium the following season.
As anticipated, the altercation was intense, with tensions erupting after the final whistle. Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were sent off for a post-game altercation, while Michael Oliver also sent off Slot and assistant Spike Hulshoff. The Dutch coach might still be there, though, when the Premier League leaders play Wolves this weekend.
FA Rules State Slot May Escape Touchline Ban
The Dutchman may face punishment but this is not guaranteed
The Independent reported that although Slot might be subject to retrospective action from the FA for his actions at the conclusion of Wednesday’s match, managers are not automatically suspended for the following game like players are, so the 46-year-old might still be in the dugout for Sunday’s match against Wolves.
According to the rules of the game, managers who are sent off are immediately prohibited from remaining on the touchline for the rest of the match. This did not apply to Slot because he was sent off after the ninety minutes had passed.
He hasn’t yet provided a thorough explanation of his side of the events, though, because he was still barred from participating in any post-match interviews due to his dismissal. His pre-match news conference for this weekend’s encounter is probably going to be his first chance to do so in public.
It is asserted that Slot is still likely to receive a “standard charge,” which is a touchline ban and pertains to the offense of acting aggressively toward a match official. It’s possible, though, that the Liverpool manager may only receive a warning for his behavior. Any possible charges must be filed by the FA within three working days after the initial occurrence.
