Gary Rowett faces criticism over a ‘massive’ Leicester City error involving a ‘poisonous’ star.

Garry Rowett was brought in to steer Leicester City away from relegation, but he has instead contributed to their downfall.

The 52-year-old was named as Foxes manager in mid-February, after being fired by fellow strugglers Oxford United two months earlier, with the club third-bottom in the Championship and two points from safety.

Leicester only managed to draw with play-off-chasing Hull City on Tuesday night, sealing their fate with two games remaining.

To make matters worse, Rowett has now been chastised for a decision he made in the match against the Tigers, which has, quite frankly, perplexed fans.

Gary Rowett called out Harry Winks’ decision.

Given what happened between Harry Winks and Leicester fans last week, it was not surprising to see him named to the bench on Tuesday night.

Following the East Midlands club’s 1-0 loss to Portsmouth last Saturday, the former England international was caught cursing at his own fans before boarding the squad bus.

Surprisingly, Rowett chose to bring Winks on as a second-half substitute, and analyst Adrian Clarke has publicly criticised the manager.

“I admire Gary Rowett, as a person. “He’s a good manager, but for me, he made a massive error of judgment,” he said on the What the EFL?! podcast. He brought in Harry Winks, Leicester’s public enemy number one. The fans despise him, and he’s been labeled as poisonous all season. He cursed at the fans going on the bus the other day.”He was heavily booed as he warmed up. He responded by clapping them, which I found aggressive. There was no reason to bring him on. Gary Rowett seemed to be sending a message to the crowd that said, ‘I’m in command here. It was a tremendous misread of the room, and the atmosphere quickly became toxic.”

What is next for Rowett and Winks?

With the Foxes moving to League One, major changes are inevitable, and it would be unexpected if the entire squad was dismantled and rebuilt.

So what about Rowett and Winks?

Given that the former Derby County manager was unable to keep the East Midlands club solvent, it appears that he will not be in charge next season, with talkSPORT reporting that he and the club will part ways.

During his time at the King Power Stadium, the 52-year-old has won only one of his 12 games, and while the players are equally to blame, the record is simply poor.

In six years, Winks has gone from being an England international to being demoted to League One, making him the most disliked guy at Leicester City.

The 30-year-old’s contract expires this summer, and considering recent events, it is unlikely that he will be offered a new one, with the midfielder earning an amazing £90,000 per week, according to Capology.

While the future appears gloomy, the Foxes might draw encouragement from Sunderland, Ipswich Town, and Southampton, all of whom emerged from League One to compete in the Premier League.

However, the club cannot afford to repeat its costly mistakes and must take prudent efforts to recover on and off the field.
