Fabrizio Romano has revealed the reported fee being paid by West Bromwich Albion for the transfer of Jimmy Jay-Morgan.

West Brom will be fully aware that failing to make the correct acquisitions this summer could result in another disappointing season in the Championship.

The Baggies had a terrible second-tier season, cycling through managers like toilet paper, and a points deduction pushed them to the brink of relegation.

Albion have already made a decisive move into the transfer market, with long-serving duo Jed Wallace and Daryl Dyke leaving as free agents.

With the window officially open, the Black Country club can ramp up their recruitment efforts, as news has emerged of a deal to bring Chelsea’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan to The Hawthorns.

West Brom strike a deal with Chelsea for Jimmy Jay-Morgan.

The Baggies struggled to hit the net last season, with only four Championship teams scoring fewer goals, making their attack a priority for next season.

Aune Heggebo, who joined Albion in the summer of 2025, concluded the season as the club’s top scorer, with ten goals in all competitions, while Isaac Price impressed in his first full season at The Hawthorns.

West Brom are now looking for goals and creativity in the form of Blues’ Jay-Morgan, who spent last season on loan at League One club Peterborough United.

The two clubs have agreed on a £4 million agreement, with the West Londoners including a sell-on provision, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The centre-forward had a promising season with Posh last season, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists across all competitions, after scoring only two with Gillingham the previous season.

Jay-Morgan has also shown promise in Chelsea’s youth setup, with 21 goals and four assists for the under-21s since joining from Southampton.

Why Albion’s move for Jay-Morgan should only be the beginning.

West Brom’s signing of Jay-Morgan is good news on many fronts, as not only has he produced decent figures, but at 20, he is clearly a player with a lot of promise.

However, Baggies fans will hope that their team does not stop there and seeks further attacking talent to boost their case in a crowded Championship next season.

Given that the forward scored 12 goals in League One, there will be questions about his potential to hit the ground running and score 15 or more goals, which would be a good target for any Albion striker.

Of course, the club is negotiating contracts with Karlan Grant and Josh Maja, and if they are signed, James Morrison will have several tempting attacking alternatives.

While Albion fans would undoubtedly prefer to have a reputable second-tier striker join their ranks, Jay-Morgan’s figures are encouraging, and if the club can add a couple more attacking players, they will be in a stronger position this summer.
