David Storch is facing a new challenge at Sheffield Wednesday involving a key player.

Sheffield Wednesday are in for a fascinating summer as they try to rebuild both on and off the pitch ahead of the 2026/27 League One season.

Former owner Dejphon Chansiri has generated numerous off-field issues for the Owls, including an 18-point deduction earlier this season, exacerbating an already difficult season.

Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation from the Championship was announced in February, and they’ve been playing for pride ever then.

The Hillsborough fans have demonstrated enough of that this season, as they continue to sell out away games across the country, which is really impressive given their team’s current position.

They are winless at Hillsborough this season and will be anxious for a morale-boosting three points in their final game of the season this weekend against West Brom.

Many players are expected to go as they prepare for life in League One, and with new owner David Storch poised to take charge of matters off the pitch, it appears to be a fresh start for everyone affiliated with the club.

Svante Ingelsson could be leaving Sheffield Wednesday?

Svante Ingelsson, a fan favourite, could be leaving Hillsborough this summer. When the former Swedish youth international arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2024, nothing was known about him, but he’s since made a name for himself for all the right reasons.

This season, the 27-year-old has earned three Player of the Month honors for Sheffield Wednesday and has made 41 appearances across all competitions.

His impressive performances appear to have not gone unnoticed, as the Yorkshire Post recently reported that Stoke City is one of the latest teams to express interest in signing the midfielder.

Ingelsson’s contract with Sheffield Wednesday runs until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, but the club has the option to extend it by another year.

Henrik Pedersen has issues. Ingelsson’s update

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen recently provided an update on the club’s efforts to keep Ingelsson at Hillsborough for the foreseeable future, admitting that it would be ‘tough’ to retain his services.

“Of course, there are clubs interested in Svante; he has been one of our top performers this season. But I also know that Sheffield Wednesday is in Svante’s blood, and he enjoys coming here. And we will do all in our power to keep him because he is one of our culture’s most important players, and he will undoubtedly be an important part of our identity in the future.

“Of course, it will be difficult, but there are many things that are difficult; this does not indicate that it is impossible. We just have to harness our talent and achieve everything we can, while also having the confidence that we can prolong and do something with Svante.”

Pedersen is clearly a fan of Ingelsson, which will be good news for Sheffield Wednesday fans as the summer approaches, but his future appears to be heavily influenced by whatever clubs are interested in signing him.

Preston North End and West Brom were interested in signing Ingelsson during the January transfer window, however the deal fell through owing to personal issues.

The opportunity to play in the Championship again may be too good to pass up for the Swedish midfielder, and he would undoubtedly leave a significant vacuum in the Sheffield Wednesday squad if he left before the 2026/27 season.
