Richard Keys was outraged by an interview Pep Guardiola gave to beIN Sports following Manchester City’s Premier League draw at Liverpool on Sunday.

Richard Keys has called Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola a “disgrace” for an interview he gave to beIN Sports following the draw with Liverpool.

Guardiola’s side took the lead in the top-of-the-table clash after John Stones scored a clever goal from a corner. But they were pegged back early in the second half when Alexis MacAllister converted a penalty after Ederson brought down Darwin Nunez.

The City manager had to deal with Ederson being forced off due to injury shortly after that penalty kick. He also had a disagreement with Kevin De Bruyne after opting to replace the Belgian midway through the second half.

Despite the disappointment of not winning against their title rivals, Guardiola carried out his post-match media duties as usual. However, Keys was dissatisfied with the Spaniard’s demeanor during an interview with beIN, where he serves as the lead presenter.

“Everyone gave everything they had – with the exception of Pep Guardiola – after the match. What’s with this guy? Guardiola was simply rude to our reporter, the excellent Andy Kerr. “If I had been Kerr, I would have ended the interview and walked away,” Keys wrote on his blog.

“And I told him afterwards. Guardiola was disgraceful. He could not be bothered. He offered nothing but one-word answers and a silly smile. He treated Kerr like a piece of s*** on his shoe.

“He did the same thing last week.” In fact, he does this most weeks. I’m told he was just as dismissive of my mate Jan Fjortoft, but I haven’t spoken with Jan, so I’m not sure. Guardiola only speaks to journalists because he is contracted to do so.

“He expressed his feelings about us during a press conference last week. But here’s the thing, Senor Guardiola. We’re all trying to do our jobs, just like you. Nobody deserves to be ridiculed by you while doing their job.”

Keys revealed that he suggested that beIN stop interviewing Guardiola, but his bosses rejected the request. However, Keys believes that it is worth investigating.

“Andy Kerr deserved better Sunday, not because you have a contractual obligation to speak to him – but because you have a moral obligation to treat him – and others – with manners and respect,” he said.

“Andy is speaking with you as a liaison between you and your supporters, who are in greater numbers in our broadcast area than anywhere else in the world. I suggested to my bosses that we simply ignore you until you get off your high horse and behave.

“Sadly, that will not happen. But it should. If the pen had been handed out, I could have better understood Guardiola’s attitude. If City had been defeated. If frustration had gotten the best of him – but none of those scenarios applied.

“When I watch Guardiola, I get the impression that no one has the right to ask him questions because none of us possesses the lofty genius that he clearly believes elevates him above everyone else.” He might be correct, but as my mother used to say, “Good manners cost nothing.”
