After a season that broke records, the celebrations are now over, and attention is turning to the new campaign’s preparations.

Manchester City’s focus will be on winning the Premier League for a fifth consecutive season. To try and achieve that, they will once more look to bolster their roster during the impending transfer window.

There may be both incomings and outgoings this summer who have already been linked to a move to the club. On June 14, the transfer window officially opens, and teams from all over the world will be fighting for the best players available.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that City is the subject of much media discussion. Here are a few of the most recent with our own viewpoint included.

The De Bruyne contract position
According to the Times, Kevin De Bruyne is “open” to extending his current contract at City but is of interest to clubs in Saudi Arabia this summer.

The midfielder has played a major role in City’s recent dominance under Pep Guardiola. Next season’s end marks the expiration of his current contract.

He was limited to just 15 Premier League starts this season due to a hamstring issue. Nevertheless, he was able to muster 10 assists and 4 goals.

According to MEN Sport, De Bruyne’s injury issues should be resolved by next season, which will be concerning for the teams trying to unseat City. The player’s desire to join the Saudi Pro League is lacking.

For City, that can only mean good news. Since moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2015, he has made a significant impact in many games, and it appears that he will continue to do so for at least another year.

The dilemma of Kalvin Phillips
Due to Leeds United’s inability to get promoted back to the Premier League, City has lost another possible suitor for Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Sunday’s match between the Whites and Southampton at Wembley Stadium was decided by a goal from Adam Armstrong. Taylor Harwood-Bellis moved permanently to the Saints as a result of that outcome.

However, it also had an additional effect on City’s transfers. Although Phillips has been linked to a number of teams, including Leeds, the Mirror claims that despite his presence at Wembley, Leeds’s chances of re-signing the midfield player from City this summer are eliminated due to their inability to earn promotion.
