Former Gunners forward Theo Walcott has given his support for Arsenal to recruit Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins during the winter transfer window before the deadline day finishes.
Theo Walcott believes that if the striker wishes to join the side he supports, Ollie Watkins will have to pressure Aston Villa into approving a move to Arsenal.
According to reports, Watkins is amenable to joining the Gunners. Despite the implication that Villa is irritated by the timing of the transfer, football.london is aware that there is a sense Arsenal will return to the West Midlands club after they rejected the club’s initial offer prior to Wednesday night’s games.
But it is football, too. According to London, Unai Emery’s staff believes that Watkins and Jhon Duran cannot both depart during the same transfer window. According to reports, the Colombian international is travelling to Saudi Arabia to complete a £64 million deal with Al Nassr.
Walcott thinks Watkins must make a tough choice as a result. “He probably won’t get another chance to join Arsenal,” the former Arsenal player told the Irish Examiner. “You have to consider that Arsenal might wish to pursue a different target in the summer.
“In my opinion, he should, if at all possible, examine himself closely. However, it will undoubtedly be more difficult now that Duran is moving on, and he will most likely need to act in an uncharacteristic manner, which is never simple.”
Walcott wants his old team to sign Watkins, a striker. The recently retired player stated, “He fits a lot of the way Arsenal play,” describing his playing style, his conduct off the pitch, and every aspect of him as a player and a guy. In addition to being an Arsenal supporter, he has extensive experience in the England setup.
Walcott thinks Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson would be a “good option” as well, although he thinks the Gunners would rather have Liam Delap, a striker for Ipswich Town. “I think they would look more at Liam Delap before Ferguson,” he said.
