Blackburn Rovers are increasing their interest in signing Sam Greenwood, a former Leeds United, Preston North End, and Middlesbrough utility player.
Sam Greenwood began his career at Sunderland and later joined Arsenal’s academy as a teenager before moving to Leeds United in 2020. He was prolific for both Leeds and Arsenal, playing primarily as a striker or attacking midfielder.
Although he received few first-team appearances at Elland Road, he demonstrated flashes of quality, particularly with his exceptional set-piece delivery, long-range shooting, and inconsistent creativity in attacking areas. Greenwood played sparingly for Leeds, mostly as a forward or offensive midfielder, but occasionally as a deeper playmaker.
To boost his development, he went on loan to Middlesbrough and subsequently Preston North End, where the 24-year-old gained crucial Championship experience and regular minutes. Throughout his career, Greenwood has established himself as a technically skilled attacker with good ball-striking ability and vision, yet consistency and physicality have been areas for growth.
Blackburn Rovers made an offer for Sam Greenwood

As he attempted to establish himself as a consistent senior player, his career took him abroad. He signed a contract with Polish club Pogon Szczecin for £3.4 million last summer, leaving Leeds permanently.
Greenwood had a dismal season, scoring three goals and assisting twice for the Ekstraklasa side. However, he was an unused replacement in three of the campaign’s final four matchdays.
Blackburn Rovers might be one option for the playmaker, with Bristol City and Wrexham also interested in him. However, it appears that Blackburn are mainly interested in former Greenwood’s services.

In fact, Rovers have increased their attempts to sign Greenwood, having submitted a proposal. The most recent news comes from Ben Jacobs, who reports that the Polish club has rejected Blackburn’s offer for Greenwood.
He believes the first bid was £650,000 with add-ons bringing the total to £1 million, but that other Championship clubs have inquired about Greenwood’s price and availability throughout the summer.
Sam Greenwood is incredibly versatile, which is why Blackburn Rovers are interested.
Greenwood has played in a number of positions for both Preston North End and Middlesbrough, but he is now entering his prime years and should be able to exhibit his talent more consistently.
He’s a strong set-piece taker, and his long-range shooting is impressive, as evidenced by his single goal for Leeds in a Premier League game against Bournemouth.

His playmaking should improve given the areas of the pitch where he works, but Greenwood could benefit from a return to English football this summer with more quality around him.
He would be a wonderful signing for Blackburn, as he can play on either flank, as a central midfielder, an offensive midfielder, or as a striker in a two-man partnership. However, they now realise that more money is essential if they want to get him ahead of Championship opponents.
