Christian Fuchs has resigned down as Newport County’s manager after only seven months in charge.
Fuchs’ tenure with Newport was his first in management, but he has already departed just two days before preseason begins.

EFL clubs will return to their training sites on Monday to begin preparations for the 2026/27 season.
However, Newport’s squad will not have a manager in place, as Fuchs has decided to quit on Saturday night.
Fuchs’ stunning decision comes after a reasonably successful first season in command, when he guided the club to League Two safety.
The Welsh team avoided relegation from the Football League by winning their final two games of the season.
However, that feat has not kept their Austrian manager at the club, and they have reluctantly confirmed the departure.
Newport County said in a statement that Christian Fuchs has decided to resign down as manager.Christian led Newport County to League Two survival and retained their EFL status in 2025-26.Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Christian for his hard work, dedication, and professionalism during his time with the club.
“The club wishes Christian every success and happiness for the future.”
The statement made no mention of a replacement or provided any updates on the search for a potential new chief.
Concerning time
Fuchs, a Premier League champion with Leicester, had been preparing for the start of the new season at Newport.
The team had already completed six additions ahead of the 26/27 season, updating their roster and introducing new players.
Harrison Biggins, Christian Doidge, Cameron Norman, Dan Sassi, Shaquille Gwengwe, and Yahya Bamba have all enlisted.
However, without Fuchs in command, they will begin preseason at their new club on Monday.
His resignation means Newport will be seeking for their fourth manager in just over two years.
According to BBC Sport, The Exiles’ owner, Huw Jenkins, was preparing for the new season under Fuchs.
However, this is the third consecutive summer that the club has had to hunt for a new manager.
Graham Coughlan, Nelson Jardim, David Hughes, and Fuchs have all came and gone since 2024.
