Wolves will ramp up their pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming Championship season.

After returning to the Championship for the first time in eight years, the Black Country club had a successful start to the summer transfer window, signing Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

Such statement additions in the second tier elicited jubilation from Wolves fans, who felt the club was finally getting back on track and was beginning to create a squad capable of taking the division by storm.

But it came as a surprise that the club was parting ways with Rob Edwards, despite the fact that the former manager had held a fans forum with BBC Radio WM to discuss plans for the upcoming season, and Trippier had commented on Edwards’ influence in the ex-England international’s move to Molineux.

There has subsequently been a change in the dugout, with Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto taking over at Molineux, with the goal of achieving rapid promotion back to the Premier League.

It will be interesting to watch how the 46-year-old performs in his first English post, although he arrives off the back of a successful season at Gil Vicente, when he led them to sixth place in the Portuguese premier division.

Wolves have signed two players after the arrivals of Trippier and Jimenez, namely defender Ladislav Krejčí and winger Rafiki Saïd, who joined from Standard Liege.

Wolves will be eager to provide Peixoto with all of the tools he needs to get the Black Country club back into the Premier League at the first attempt, with Wolves fans expecting more incomings with three weeks until their season opener against Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking to Wolves’ official club website, manager Cesar Peixoto provided an update on the club’s transfer ambitions ahead of the 2026-27 season, stating that their business is far from over and that they are looking for further players that will make the team’strong’ and ‘class’.

Peixoto stated, “I studied all of the players, but it’s not the same as working with them on the field, and I’m satisfied with the quality we have.”

We’ll bring in more players to help us build a strong, high-quality team, but these players have demonstrated character, commitment, and quality, which is important to me. I set my own standards and create a positive environment for both players and staff. It’s crucial that everyone understands my vision for the club, which emphasises independence and responsibility.Now I see and feel it in the club, in the team, and it makes me happy, with the hope and trust that we will develop a good family and a fantastic squad.”

Wolves have grounds for optimism over the rest of the transfer window.

It will undoubtedly be an interesting season for Wolves, who are projected to be one of the division’s dominant teams and to return to the Premier League at the first opportunity.

Those possibilities have undoubtedly grown with the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, in particular, who both bring valuable second-tier experience and will have a significant impact at both ends of the pitch.

The departure of Joao Gomes to Aston Villa for a rumoured £38 million fee has also provided a significant boost to the finances, and Peixoto’s statements confirm that they will utilise some of those monies to add further quality to the squad.

While it is unclear who their goals are at this time, the club will be hoping to persuade some extremely talented players to join the project at Molineux, with Wolves making it much simpler for them to get out of the Championship by recruiting players who are nearly too good for the division.

So, as the following few weeks pass, we can expect Wolves to be busy on the transfer front, as they attempt to lift the title trophy in May 2027.
