A fresh transfer update has emerged from The Hawthorns regarding West Bromwich Albion.

West Bromwich Albion have a lot of squad rebuilding work to do this summer, and two moves have already been completed at The Hawthorns, with more to come.

West Bromwich Albion breathed a sigh of relief as the 2025-26 season came to a close. A season marked by three managers and a points deduction for violations of PSR criteria meant that a season that began with ambitions of contending for a play-off spot or higher concluded with the club narrowly surviving relegation to League One thanks to a ten-game unbeaten streak towards the end.

After Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsey failed at The Hawthorns, former Albion player James Morrison managed the team’s comeback as interim head coach, a role that was made permanent once survival was secured at the end of the season.

And, with Albion not wanting to go through another season like this, Morrison and the West Bromwich Albion recruitment team face a busy summer, with the likelihood of a big squad reconstruction looming.

West Brom have clinched the signing of Barney Stewart, but they are far from finished in the transfer market.

West Bromwich Albion have already confirmed their first summer signing, 22-year-old forward Barney Stewart from Falkirk for a reported fee of £1.3 million, while Carter Pinnington has joined from Liverpool and will initially train with the club’s under-21 squad.

While the highly-rated Stewart is a promising start, the Express & Star reports that West Brom are far from finished in the transfer market this summer. They add that “Albion are pushing for more signings,” with Jimmy-Jay Morgan poised to join from Chelsea.

They also add that the club is still negotiating with players from last season that they want to keep, stating that “Albion have been in talks with Karlan Grant over a new deal, while striker Josh Maja has been offered a new contract.”

As if that weren’t enough, they also report that James Morrison hasn’t finished fine-tuning his backroom team, stating that “negotiations [are] taking place with Celtic over bringing Gavin Strachan to The Hawthorns.”

Strachan, the son of former Scotland international Gordon, has been on Celtic’s coaching staff since 2020 and has previously worked for several English clubs, including Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers, where he assisted another son of a Scottish football legend, Darren Ferguson.

West Brom’s early transfer window activity was focused on youth.

The two other new faces who could soon join Barney Stewart at The Hawthorns suggest that West Bromwich Albion’s summer transfer policy is at least partially aimed at developing new potential.

Carter Pinnington reportedly turned down a new contract with Liverpool to join West Brom after a 12-year stint with the Merseyside club. Pinnington made 19 appearances for Liverpool’s Premier League 2 team last year, but the club has been unable to sign him to a new contract.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan of Chelsea is another relative kid who might make the switch to the Black Country. According to the BBC, the 20-year-old forward is “in advanced talks” with Albion following a successful loan spell with Peterborough United in 2025-26, during which he scored 12 goals and created three assists in 34 appearances, despite his team’s thoroughly underwhelming League One season, which ended in 18th place in the table.

Contract negotiations with Karlan Grant and Josh Maja could be viewed as counterbalances to their additions. Grant and Maja are both extremely experienced players, and it is critical to keep them when younger players emerge. However, following last season’s tight escape, West Bromwich Albion still has a lot of work to do this summer, and there are no indicators that the club is nearing completion in the transfer market.
