As we reach November, the Championship season is in full swing, and the division’s 24 clubs have resumed midweek play.
Wrexham’s game with high-flying Middlesbrough at the Racecourse Ground is one of three second-tier fixtures on Wednesday night, with three points desperately needed by both Phil Parkinson and Kim Hellberg, albeit for very different reasons.
The Welsh team has been severely underwhelming this season, and after losing three of their previous four games, pressure is mounting on Parkinson’s shoulders, with results falling far short of the club’s lofty goals.
Borough, meanwhile, have been unstoppable in recent weeks, winning four of their past five games and scoring 14 goals, including a 3-0 victory against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
However, while both head coaches will be counting on the services of several great names to secure a key victory, a total of eight players are expected to miss the match, and Football League World examines all of their various situations.
Wrexham
Sebastian Revan

Sebastian Revan is the first of four Wrexham players expected to miss Wednesday’s game, as the defender continues to recover from a major hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old faced such misfortune during his loan stay with Burton Albion last season, making his final competitive game for the Red Dragons in March 2025.
Parkinson has indicated his belief that the left-back is fit enough to secure a loan move in the January window.
Liberato Cacace

Liberato Cacace, a fellow left-back who joined from Empoli, has struggled with injuries and has yet to play this season.
Cacace, 26, appeared in three FIFA World Cups after only 13 appearances last season, and it has been reported that the defender continues to suffer from reoccurring calf ailments.
However, the timeline for his most recent recuperation remains unknown.
Nathan Broadhead

Wrexham’s poor start to the season has also coincided with an injury suffered by Welsh international attacker Nathan Broadhead, who scored 14 goals last season.
After appearing in the first three league matches, the 28-year-old hasn’t played since due to a thigh injury, which also kept him out of Craig Bellamy’s team for the three-week international break in September and October.
Callum O’Hare

Callum O’Hare missed Friday night’s 1-0 loss to his previous club Sheffield United due to an ankle injury and remains doubtful for the match against Borough.
Wrexham paid £6.5 million for the playmaker on Deadline Day in September, but he is yet to make a goal impact for his new team despite scoring in his final league outing for the Blades.
Sam Smith
Parkinson’s final absentee is Josh Windass, whose experience and quality were critical to the club’s play-off campaign last season.
Windass has had an injury-plagued start to the season, missing the all of pre-season and the first few weeks of the competitive season, and was forced out in the early stages of the 1-1 draw at Derby County with an ankle injury.
The injury prognosis was not as terrible as first thought, albeit the 32-year-old has missed the last four games.
Middlesbrough
Alfie Jones

Alfie Jones is one of two Middlesbrough players set to miss this game, with the veteran Canadian international suffering further injury setbacks at the Riverside Stadium.
After missing a significant portion of his first season on Teesside, the 29-year-old suffered a calf injury in the thrilling 4-3 triumph over Norwich City back in September.
Jones was anticipated to miss only a few weeks, but Hellberg stated that he would be sidelined for much longer due to an unexpected setback.
Rokas Puksta

The North East side is also expected to be without summer signing Rokas Pukstas for the sixth consecutive game.
The American youth international was signed from Hadjuk Split for a record £4.3 million and has played just six minutes of Championship football since his arrival, against Queens Park Rangers on September 5th.
Pukstas was then an unused substitute for three consecutive games before suffering a hamstring injury while participating in private training, forcing him to miss at least the remainder of last month’s play.
