John Mousinho Faces Fresh Portsmouth Twist as Bigger EFL Clubs Show Interest in a Potential Move.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho is allegedly back on the radar of several larger EFL clubs after a strong start to the season at Fratton Park.

According to a story released by TalkSPORT, Mousinho may be able to quit Pompey and take on a new challenge if a new post at another EFL club becomes available in the near future.

The 40-year-old has unexpectedly taken Pompey to the high echelons of the Championship standings in the early stages of the season, with a 2-1 victory against Millwall last weekend putting them 11th, just two points below the top eight.

The South Coast club has 18 points from their first 12 league games this season, with Portsmouth just losing once in their last eight games and winning four.

Deemed relegation candidates before a ball was ever kicked, such superb form demonstrates what a quality coach Mousinho is capable of, and his days at Fratton Park may be numbered if his Pompey side continues to produce consistent results.

John Mousinho’s unclear future at Portsmouth

This isn’t the first time John Mousinho has been linked with a move away from Portsmouth; his future was uncertain throughout the summer.

Mousinho was linked with the vacant role at Bristol City ahead of the 2026-27 season and was reportedly interviewed for the position.

The Robins chose to go in a another way and hire ex-Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala instead, but Mousinho was open to consider another job.

Of course, despite being unable to get a move to Ashton Gate, Mousinho has continued in his role at Portsmouth and done an excellent job thus far, and everyone at Pompey is going to be concerned that a bigger job will inevitably turn his head.

John Mousinho back on radar of EFL rivals

According to TalkSPORT, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho is being scouted by several EFL rivals after a great start to the season with Pompey.

According to TalkSPORT, a number of ‘larger’ clubs are following Mousinho’s situation at Fratton Park after he helped the club win 10 points in their past four second-tier fixtures.

While TalKSPORT did not specify which clubs are interested, it did cite the mounting pressure on Philippe Clement at Norwich City, as well as John Eustace’s need to turn Derby County’s results around fast.

It was stated that Sheffield Wednesday may be interested in hiring the 40-year-old, although the current Portsmouth manager is unlikely to make the move to League One.

The emerging John Mousinho problem is a major concern for Portsmouth.

It’s not what Portsmouth fans want to hear about John Mousinho, but that’s the nature of the beast when a team begins to succeed on the field.

The former central defender is making enormous steps in his management career, and it appears that we’re seeing the peak of his abilities as he leads Portsmouth into early promotion contention.

However, if Mousinho is snatched by a Championship competitor, all of Pompey’s hard work could unravel, with the manager needed to stay if the club is to continue on such a strong track.

The real problem is that Mousinho has recently demonstrated his readiness to take on larger roles at this level, and if a team came calling, it would be difficult to imagine Mousinho declining such a rare opportunity.

Unfortunately, the longer Portsmouth continues to perform so well, the more likely it is that Mousinho will leave, therefore the club must make early plans to deal with what would be a massive blow.
